It sounds bad but I’d been smoking since I was 13 years old. You know your mates doing it so you do too, BIG mistake!! I had been trying to quit since I was 18 but just couldn’t, the craving always got the better of me. The only time I quit was when I was pregnant but soon as I gave birth I craved a cigarette really bad so smoked one, then one led to two and so on.
I tried really hard to stop smoking. I brought some nicorette gum but it was disgusting so stopped having it. I tried again a couple of months later but again couldn’t. Then I met my fiancés and his family. His dad had smoked for 40 years and found out about 10 years ago that he had cancer. They had to remove most of one of his lungs and drain them. I was told the amount of tar that came out was sickening. Everyone kept saying I should quit but it was easier said than done.
Hearing his story I sat down and had a long think about it. I had to quit for me and for my children. If I died from cancer at an early age due to my smoking were would they be.
So I decided I have to give it another go. This time I went to my G.P. for advice and spoke to the local chemist.
I decided to try the NiQuitin CQ clear 21mg patches. You put them on and leave them for 24 hours then change it. Because I had to smoke with in half an hour of waking up the step 1 patches were recommended for me.
So I went home and when I woke in the morning instead of a cigarette I put on a patch. You apply the patch to your skin. One patch contains 114mg of nicotine and delivers 21mg of nicotine to your body in 24 hours. The patch is 22cm2 in size and also contains ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, polyethylene terephthalate, and polyethylene film. They come in packs of 7, which is a week’s supply.
That day I didn’t smoke 1 cigarette went to bed got up again and changed the patch and carried on doing that for 6 weeks. Then I changed the patches for stage 2 then after another 6 weeks stage 3. I didn’t once crave a cigarette in all that time. I also found after a couple of days I could breath a lot better, I didn’t get out of breath walking to the shops. The taste in my mouth was gone. It was amazing. I felt a lot fitter than before.
I did get a red mark were the patch had been on my arm but faded quickly. And they can make some people feel sick. You must always wash your hands after touching one of the patches. You must always consult your doctor before using the patches if you are under the doctor receiving prescribed medicine or if you are aged 12 years to 17, if you want to become pregnant or are pregnant or are breast-feeding. If you get a persistent skin rash then you need to take of the patch and see your G.P.
They cost around £15, I know its sounds pricey but they are very good. They have a help line number for you to call and also their web site address. You must not take or use any other quit smoking aids while using the patches. And now I am totally cigarette free and have been for 1 and half years. Now I can’t stand the smell of cigarette smoke. So if you want to quit why not try them.

I gave up for nearly 18 months whilest pregnant and not at work - the only way I got to sit down at work was to go off for a quick fix! I should really try these! Jo :)
