I have been smoking for over half of my life. I was influenced by peers at school, started to smoke with my friends at lunch time and before I knew it I was buying them myself, addicted to nicotine, and spending more money that what I wanted to. It all starts that way, when you are young and smoking is something that you will always crave for at some point even if you have managed to give up.
Over the years, many people have kept saying to me that I should give up smoking and I have tried many methods including cold turkey, nicotine chewing gum, nicotine patches, all of which do help to a certain extent, however its the willpower and the want to quit that has to be as powerful as the actual products themselves.
When the smoking ban came into effect thats when I decided it was time for me to do something about it and if you go to the doctors they will put you on the best plan available and you can obtain these sort of products on a prescription which is much more cost effective than buying them over the counter in a pharmacy or supermarket.
Niquitin come in various different types, different colours, different strengths depending on how many cigarettes you smoke in a day. The patches that I was prescribed were clear square patches about two inches in diameter, and I was given 24 hour patches which are based on if you smoke more than ten cigarettes a day.
The patch is classed as stage one of the quitting programme, and contains 114mg nicotine and delivers 21mg of the nicotine into the system over a 24 hour period. All you do is apply it to your skin and let it do its work.
The good thing about 24 hour patches is that when your 24 hours are over you stick another one on and you don't have to go throgh the process of waiting for it to get into your system, so basically you sleep in it and put another one on first thing in the morning, where as some brands only support 16 hours.
The product does work, I didn't suffer cravings at all, which is strange that you don't want a cigarette, so if you have willpower these will be great for you. However, the problem with myself, I hadn't got the willpower and still found it hard, and unfortunately I failed to quit. I have though cut down a lot which is great, however I don't think now is the right time for me, and you need to want to quit instead of feeling pressured into quitting. I am aware of a lot of people who have been successful on this product, however I am not one of them.

My story is basically the same as yours, lol. Started when i was youg and now I just can't stop! Oh well, i'm sure we'll both get there one day!

I quit 18 months ago, cold turkey, no problem. But I'd tried that before and failed horribly. All of these products take your money, but the most important ingredient in any quit attempt is willpower and without that, there's nothing NRT can do.
