After trying numerous times to quit the dreaded weed "cold turkey", I always seemed to give in after about 3 weeks - and boy, I hated myself for being so weak.
I decided to visit my GP, who started me on Niquitin CQ Step 1 Patches. The manufacturers say to try 6 weeks at step 1 but my GP preferred to have me on the stronger ones for only 4 weeks before moving me to the next step. I didn't notice any difference at all.
I'm now on the final stage, step 3 and still haven't noticed any difference, although my nicotine patch is now 7mg compared to the higher one of 21mg. I feel really proud of myself, my sense of taste and smell have improved - and so much so I can smell a smoker at 50 paces! Did I really smell like that? Yes, I did - and that thought alone is enough to keep me off the ciggies this time.
NiQuitin CQ are really good in keeping cravings at bay (what cravings? I've had none at all for smoking). The slight burn and itch is still there when I apply a new patch every day but I'm getting used to that by now. What's a small itch and burn between friends if I'm going to continue to save all that money by not smoking? The step 3 patch is only an inch square, tiny compared to the step 1.
My dreams aren't so vivid now, shame really as I did enjoy those! I have now saved over £300 by not smoking......I also read a really good book on not smoking by Allen Carr, who used to smoke 100 a day (yuk). I'll also review his book if I find it on here.....I am a newbie :-)
If you're interested in seriously stopping smoking for GOOD, then go out and buy yourself some patches today. Set a stop date and get healthy - if I can, so can you.
GOOD LUCK

thats great, youve done it! be vigilant though the cravings do creep up on you even after 5 years. i stopped smoking with the patches and was hesitant with coming off them, but i did after 19 weeks as agreed by my gp and couldnt fell better for it. well done you should be proud of yourself
