Nissan Micras dont really rust or rot till there about 16 if the paint work is looked after well.Mine has 1 medium sized bit of rot on the wing and thats it,So its not all bad. There has been no welding or anything like that been done to our Micra.

Reliability
The Nissan Micra Mk 1 dont keep up with Nissans excelent reliabilty record as evelything possble has gone wrong with our Micra. At 69,448 miles to be exact our engine blown totally!!!.It was only that we were getting an new engine with 60,000 miles done fitted and our old one taken out and disposed of for £250 that its still on the road today.
STORY TWO.....
A few weeks back i was taking my friends daughter home from her freiends party when the main beam lights dissapeared which meant we had to get the AA out to take us home which costed a fortune. The actual light switch which is the thing that sticks out from the steering colum needed repalacing which costed a grand total of £99.99 for the switch and fitting.
STORY 3.....
A motorway journey was done from Birmingham to Coventry,I was driving almost flat out at 75mph which that sort of speed is needed to prevent some prat sitting on your back bumper when a crash thud thud thud was heared from the rear of the car,I glanced in my rear veiw to see part of my exhaust pipe in the middle of the road and you can guess what fun that was driving 15 miles down the motorway at 70mph which was 5 mph of flat out with no exhaust....
Yes i can hear you sniggering away there but it wasnt funny.....
Peformance
Well peformance, Dont even go there the Micra 1.0 Mk1 has a maximum speed of 75mph slightly uphill and 80mph on the flat and a 0-60 time of about 18seconds.This is not a peformance car i know but it isnt happy at 50mph.
Fuel ecconomy
Around town the Micra will do 38.8 mpg and on a long run at 50mph 48.0mpg if your lucky and stick to 50mph on the motorway is dangerous nevermind boring.
~Parts and Servicing
The old Micra is exspensive to service about the sam eas my old Orion,A service is needed evely 6-8,000 miles which includeds a oil change according to my local garage.Parts are very exspensive but if you havr the time to go down to the scrap yard you will find some bargains.I was charged £5.95 for a poxy oil cap!.
Driving out and about
The Micra isnt really a joy to drive but gets you about easily (as long as your with the AA/RAC/BRITTANIA).The Micra LS has a 4 speed box which is quite heavy and not really very enjoyable to operate.
The Brakes on the Micra are not very affective at speeds of over 50mph but are satisfactory around town.
Handling on the Micra without power steering is to an acceptable standard and parking where a lot of turning the wheel at low speeds can become heavy which is why i would choose a 1200cc GLX because the 1200cc offers little more power but not much so i've read and the GLX offers power steering and a few other gadgets.
There is pleanty of leg room in the old Micra in the front but is ypoor in the rear.At a push i can get 3 medium sized adults in the rear without to many moans and groans.
Rust and overall condition~
Nissan Micras dont really rust or rot till there about 16 if the paint work is looked after well.Mine has 1 medium sized bit of rot on the wing and thats it,So its not all bad. There has been no welding or anything like that been done to our Micra.
~~Looks
The Nissan Micra is o.k to look at but nothing to go mad about.I think the Fiesta Mk2 is a better looking rival but rusts very badly. The Micra maybe nothing to look at but was better looking in its time compared to the new micra.
Equipment
The Nissan Micra is much better equiped than the entry model Fiesta (The Popular). The following equipment is on our Nissan Micra LS.
The list may well be short and sweet but it wasnt bad for its time especially for the entry model.
Depreciaion
The Nissan Micras hold there value quite well we payed about £900 in 1997 for ours with 55,000 miles on the clock in above average condition.Brand new they once costed £5,295 ON THE ROAD
Overall~
Overall i dont think Nissan Micras are bad cars i think we just got a bad one if you can find a H reg 1.2 GLX which is the posh spec model with about 60,000 miles 75,000 max with a bit of history in abover average condition your safe paying up to about £800.
This op is on the Nissan Micra 1.0 LS, I know this is the 1200cc section but i have all ready written about a Nissan Micra 1.0 S which was brand new.
LAST OPINION FOR A FEW WEEKS AS IM GOING TO SPAIN 9AM TOMMORO!!!!!!!
Feedback most appreciated.
Well this week it was time to part with my old Micra!.I will be left carless for a while!.At the moment i have my eye on the Ford Focus and the Renault Megane Fidigi special edition.
Advantages: Strong, capable engine; good space for four people Disadvantages: Gloomy interior, tin-can bodywork, poor paint finish, awful auto box
...in the days when a Nissan was as reliable as clockwork but also known for swiss-cheese bodywork once the British climate had got to it. Today, the tinworm is extinct in Nissans but close the latest Micra's door and you still get the impression that you're sitting in a tin can. You can just imagine hordes of Geordies shipping their Newcastle Brown empties down the A184 to Sunderland to be recycled into Micras.
My temporary transport was finished ... ...Mouse meets Noddy in Toyland". Nissan design and build cars in the UK, and are mostly owned by the French. You'd think that between our two great nations, we'd be able to teach the Japanese to give a car a soul, but they're obviously slow learners.
Open the boot to put your briefcase in, and you'll feel glad you don't have to put too much in there with it. Yes, it's a small car, but there are smaller cars with better carrying capacity, and the latest ...

Advantages: Utter reliability, running costs, easy to drive and park, sliding back seats, willing engine Disadvantages: headroom in rear, slightly odd looks!
This review is for a 1.2 SX, which the Sport edition replaced.
The SX model was better equipped than the Sport eg it has climate control and the keyless entry and ignition.
This 04 reg car belongs to my girlfriend and she has owned it for around 12 months.
She was looking for one with the keyless entry which originally I thought was very gimmicky - although I now wish my car has it too. It makes getting in very easy if you have shopping or if ... ...in.
In terms of equipment it has climate control, the keyless entry, parking sensors, rain sensitive wipers, full complement of airbags, full electrics, sliding rear seats (meaning the boot can be made about as big as that in a Focus), fog lights, alloys etc etc.
The SX is more expensive second hand than the 'S' trim (by £500-£1000) but I think its worth it (you'll get a fair bit of that back when you sell it) but the S doesnt have essentails for ...

...to watch out for: the Nissan dealership.
My car has just been in for the first service. There was Nissan Care Plan for new car annual services but it has to be taken when the car is < 3months old. I was not informed by the dealer at that time and now I missed it. Now the dealer has changed from CrossRoads (for some reason) to Sims at Kidlington. I asked the new dealer for help and guess what, they did not reply my phone cars. Even when I complained ... ...I fed up with the Nissan (NO) Customer services.
To add insult to injury, Sims gargage quoted me a staggering £300 for the first year service. For a Nissan Micra new car at 1st year service, this is unheard of. So I contacted another local Nissan repairer (a few years ago Humphris was a Nissan dealer, now only an authorised Nissan repairer) and got a quote of £200. I went there for the service to avoid being ripped off by the Sims gargage (Kidlington, ...

...is my opinion on the Nissan Micra. Okay when you hear Nissan Micra you conjure up the image of a car which quite a lot of elderly people drive, but then you ask yourself why? There must be something about the car, which is drawing people to buy the car. I will try to explain my view…
** Looks **
My Micra, which is an H reg was not bought for looks. This model is the model, which is quite square not the new updated bubble version, which I ... ...to me it looks Gold and to everyone else that looks at it they see Gold. But the logbook that I have says it is beige! Either the car is a re-spray, the log book is wrong or the translation from the Japanese name for the colour is wrong? Either way it doesn’t really matter, it is a pretty unique sight!
Inside the car isn’t much better than the outside, the designers either didn’t know what colour they were using or there was a ...

You may have already read my review of my Citroen C3 (or my review of my previous Micra), but the Citroen had to go in for a spot of work and we got a new Micra as a loan car. This is how I thought the new model compared.
Firstly the shape - you either love it or hate it. It's an unusual looking car to say the least but I guess it is at least different to many of the identikit cars on the road.
We did consider a new Micra when we bought the Citroen ... ...- they wouldn't even return calls wanting to book a test drive and we'd had problems with maintenance on our previous Nissan.
Turning to the interior, this was the base "E" model so it came with a black interior which was a bit sombre - higher spec models have brighter interiors which is much nicer. There is a high specification though to say this is the entry level specification. Remote central locking, twin airbags, radio/CD with RDS, power steering, ...
