Nivea Double Effect Anti-Perspirant

I only ever buy deodorants when they are on special offer and therefore rarely stick to one brand and am not averse to giving new ones a try!
I bought this one from Sainsburys quite a while ago when it was for sale at one third off the RRP of £1.95 for 50ml.

~ What does the packaging stage? ~

- Gentle care
- 24 hour anti-perspirant protection
- Softens skin for a close shave
The info on the packaging is somewhat confusing for me as in one statement it implies that you can use this for underarm shaving; ‘ with natural avocado extract softening the skin and helping you get a close shave’ whilst there is another statement of ‘this is an anti-perspirant not a shaving product’.

~ My Experience ~

It has a screw top lid and a transparent glass bottle which enables you to see when you are close to finishing this. This is an advantage over many other ones that I’ve used, where you can’t see when you are about to run out until it dries up!
It's really easy to apply and so far the 'rolling ball' has never 'jammed' which I have sometimes found with other roll ons. It glides very easily on my underarm but sometimes a little too much fluid is distributed! This does mean that it takes a few minutes to dry which isn't great if you are in a real hurry.

As a lot of you ladies may know, some deodorants are unbearable after shaving your underarms and you have to wait an hour or so before applying them. But this really doesn't sting after shaving which is a real bonus if you have given your underarm the quick once over with the razor before going out.

-The smell –

This has a very feminine, light floral scent to it when first applied.

- Effectiveness-

This is where the anti-perspirant fails for me. It is fine for the first few hours but as the day progresses it does absolutely nothing to keep my underarms perspiration free, let alone keeping them fresh for 24 hours!

- My verdict –
Advantages:
~ Pleasant scent when first applied.
~ Doesn't sting your underarms after shaving

Disadvantages:

~ Doesn’t combat perspiration.
~ It takes a while to dry.
~ It leaves the odd white mark on black clothing if put on after applying it.

~ The difference between an anti-perspirant and a deodorant ~
A deodorant simply masks body odours with fragrances whereas an anti-perspirant works by reducing the amount of perspiration produced, resulting in a reduction of BO.
- Overall –

Given the fact that this does nothing to keep my underarms fresh throughout the day, this was a big disappointment for me hence the fact that I have replaced it with more efficient alternatives even before finishing it!
