Once in the ‘Skin Care’ section of Wilkinsons, I noted that the price of ‘Nivea’s Essential ‘Lip Care’ only amounted to 30 – 40p more than some supermarket’s own brands, so I reckoned ‘I was worth it’, and bought a 4.8g twist-up tube for 99p.

Anticipating some cold hours spent tidying up the garden ready for winter, and already suffering from dry lips due to flu recently, I decided I needed something to soothe my battle-torn mouth, as well as protect it from possibly more detrimental effects.

The outer cardboard packaging, and the twist-up lipstick-style tube itself are both decorated in a mixture of blues and whites, so typical of a lot of Nivea’s skin and body products. Information offered on the packaging includes the statement that…

** USAGE**
I was able to access the tube from a cutout window in the packaging, and was immediately aware of the solid feel it had to it. Once the French-blue hood covering the white twist up base was removed, it revealed the appealing slightly off-white lip salve within. I was keen to find out whether that certain ‘Nivea’ smell had been incorporated, and was delighted to find, that in deed it had. The fragrance was every bit as endearing, as so many other Nivea products I’ve used in the past, and every bit as welcome. Reminding me slightly of vanilla, and providing a light, creamy, rich but yet, subtle aroma.
Twisting up the base resulted in lifting the contents to the rim, and a little bit over. So far, everything about this product was oozing quality.
Applying to my battered lips, the ‘lip care’ effortlessly glided along, and round the contours of my mouth. It’s thick, smooth texture provided the first sensation, which was one of great comfort, followed by a feeling of deep moisturising. It was as if my lips were readily absorbing this most welcomed visitor. Almost immediately after application, my lips felt waxy, protected and calm, but without that greasy and wet feeling some similar products have given me in the past. Looking in the mirror, I could see appearance-wise, the results were one of a gleam rather than a gloss, and the dry bits of my lips that had been apparent before, looked more appeased than they had done for a couple of weeks. I noted no alteration to the colour of my lips, therefore this product goes on clear and on rubbing my lips together I also noted they didn’t feel at all sticky!
I wanted to know how it would fair against the cold and slightly windy weather of this particular day, so a little after 9.am and donning Wellington boots… into the garden I went.
By the time I’d swept the leaves up, pulled some weeds, and pruned a couple of plants, a good 1-2 hours had passed, and boy was I gasping for a hot cup of tea, and a snack to eat!
Even after my elevenses I could still feel the Nivea on my lips, and noticed no residue left on my cup. In order to test for the ease of removal should it get onto laundry somehow, I smeared a bit onto a pillowcase, which incidentally barely left any mark at all. A minimum amount of effort with a bit of warm water and soap, removed all traces completely.
I would say I was aware of this ‘lip care’ till lunchtime at least, and although it’s presence did take a slow decline over this approximate 3 hour period, I didn’t have to re-apply until then. Even after applying twice, for just two days, the condition of my lips had vastly improved. My lips felt nourished and back to normal, if not softer and smoother than before.
**CONCLUSIONS**
It’s not often that I appreciate paying extra for a product and can sing it’s praises, but on all accounts this Nivea ‘lip care’ has not failed to impress. From the packaging to the tube, and product itself, I found one word kept cropping up time after time… ‘Quality’!
In case you haven’t guessed by now, I’m very enthusiastic about this ‘Lip Care’, and it has now become a regular companion in my handbag or pocket, but could easily fit into just about anywhere. I tend to use it every time I go out rather than just when my lips are dry, so much do I enjoy using it, and so good are the benefits I reap. It also lies nicely under a lipstick.
I can feel the richness on my lips; I can rely on the design of the tube to deliver the product efficiently and without any waste gathering round the top in a splodge. I loved the way the hood clicks soundly shut after use, and the slight Nivea fragrance whilst applying. But most of all I love the way it performs on my lips and the improvement witnessed in the general condition of them, even after a short period of time.
After three weeks of almost daily usage the tube is only about one third gone, so a little definitely goes a long way.
I had my reservations at letting my ‘teenage-ish’ children take one of these each to school, as history has proved that similar products have been frequently lost. So far I’ve had none of them go ‘missing in action’, which is probably due to both kiddies liking them, inspiring due care, and the bright colouring of the tube making it easy for them to locate. The fragrance seems to appeal to both sexes too, which is a blessing.
Accessibility is good and in Boots and Asda they are currently selling this ‘Essential Lip Care’ priced at £1.25. As stated previously, I bought mine in Wilkinson’s at 26p cheaper, but even if I did not have access to this shop, I still think £1.25 is a great price for such a ‘top notch’ product.
Other Nivea ‘lip Care’ products include the already-mentioned Sun version, Repair, Pearl & Shine (with Shea butter), and Rose. These too come in 4.8g twist-up lipstick-style tubes, and are priced similarly.
As it states on the back of the packaging… ‘Live life with a smile.’
Best wishes.

Nivea Essential Lip Balm
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I, like many other millions of people suffer from dry, chapped lips at certain times of the year, this is usually caused by weather changes, and licking your lips when they are dry causes them to become cracked.
This is a balm which I use on a more or less daily basis. I use this both in winter and in summer months, and all in between.
It provides your lips with a very soft feeling without feeling ... ...lid is blue and has Nivea Lip care essential written around it. The Smell
~~~~~~~~
It smells lovely! It is very similar to vanilla, This is not a strong smell but very subtle and is not at all overpowering as you can sometimes get with scented balms.
The Taste
~~~~~~~~
Now I do try not to lick my lips after applying lip balm as it totally ruins the effects, and is usually the cause of dry and chapped lips in the first place! But in the interest ...
Advantages: small and compact Disadvantages: doesn't work, hasn't made much improvement
...of the ones in the Nivea range, they sell all different ones which I have also tried such as the Pearl and Shine, rose, strawberry, etc. I picked it up for around £1.47 in Sainsburys, which isn't expensive for lip balm, but is by no means the cheapest I have ever tried!
This is the essential one which is the one with the blue lid. It looks just the same as many other Nivea lip balms with the white twist up, twist down base. It claims to soothe and ... ...that it definitley wasn't value for money. I won't be buying this again, shame really as most other Nivea products are quite good!
Overall nice thing to have in your handbag as a last resort, but definitley not the best!
Advantages: keeps lips in good condition, small enough to take anywhere Disadvantages: can melt, will break fairly easily if you twist it up too far
...the bottom, as with all Nivea lipbalms and the colour coded lid, this one just happens to be bright blue, so it's really easy to spot when i'm delving into my bag, and seeing as the whole thing must be about 7cm in length it can fit into your pockets as well.
I find it really easy to apply, it isn't sticky and doesn't create a mess. Whereas with the lipbalms you get in the pots or the squirty tubes, i find that i tend to either get it underneath ... ...container too hard and getting far too much out.
It also has a fairly nuetral flavour, and as it is not specifically strawberry flavour, for example, it can be used by a wider range of people. Infact i would say it could be used by most age groups, and not just by girls either!!
It doesn't give any colour to your lips, so if you accidently put too much on it will only give your lips a slight sheen, and not a bright pink tint, or icy looking lips ...
Advantages: Long lasting, makes lips smooth and soft. Disadvantages: Melts and snaps - may be better in winter.
As I suffer from dry lips frequently I am always trying new lipbalms to see which one worked. My fiance actually picked this one up for me from the supermarket as I'd run out. It costs somewhere between £1-2, I'm sorry I can't remember exactly.
The stick is similar to Nivea's other lipbalms. It's a fairy chunky item and feels like it's good quality. It is a dark blue - as you can see in the picture. The cardboard packaging the tube comes in says ... ...often find lip balm can wear off far to quickly. The product is labelled as preservative free, but I didn't realise they put preservative in lipbalm anyway. It also claims that usage will result in "soft, smooth and healthy looking lips". So...what did I think of it?
Well, the product didn't smell yucky as some lipbalms do. And it certainly lasted longer on my lips than others I have tried. After applying it my lips did indeed feel soft and smooth, ...
...easier to use a stick.This nivea lip balm is what it says, a balm, its not sticky, makes your lips feel soft. The rose one is particularly nice, has a nice smell to it, without being too much. It doesnt break off either which i have experienced with other leading brands.
