Only a few years back, us guys would have had funny looks if we admitted to using facial care products. Just imagine the scene, after a brutal and bloody rugby match, rushing back for a group shower experience, drying off and then pulling a jar of moistureiser out of the locker and applying it to your face. I get the feeling that the result would be along the lines of name calling or the dreaded towel-whip !
Times, however, have changed - and cosmetic and skincare companies, such as Nivea, are introducing ranges specifically for men. This review is for just one product in their range - Nivea For Men Intensive Cream.
The Product - -------------------
The cream comes in a 50ml Glass Pot, with a protective foil seal. When peeled back, the cream itself looks very appealing - pure white that resembles fresh dairy cream. There is a very subtle fresh smell that does not really smell of anything (is that contradictory ?). The cream contains vitamins E, F and H, and pro-vitamin B5 which help the skin to lock in moisture. It also contains UV Filters to help protect the skin from harmful rays from the sun. The cream is cool when applied, and is quickly absorbed leaving a smooth skin texture that is suprisingly non-greasy.
Why Use It ? -----------------
In todays modern world, it is so easy for us blokes to forget about things like skincare, but in our everyday lives there are things that can damage our skin - the sun, wind, smoke & pollution, bacteria & germs, shaving, air conditioning and heating. Different people suffer from different aspects and with varying results. I, for example, work in a "temperature controlled enviroment", meaning that it is air-conditioned. As a result, I suffer from very dry skin.
The Effects - -----------------
The immediate effect is that dry skin becomes much smoother and fresher as soon as the cream is absorbed into the skin. The longer term effects, if used regulary, is that it will help to protect the skin against the above, and can help skin to look younger and healthier.
Cost / Availability - ------------------------
The Cream is available from many high street stores, such as Superdrug or Boots, for around £5.00 - £6.00 (although it is occasionally on special offer !). A 50ml Jar will last around 4 - 6 weeks of regular use.
Overall Opinion - -----------------------
I would certainly recommend this product to any guys out there - even if they have no obvious skin problems. The cream is very mild and suits all skin types, and should be applied on a daily basis. The product is sold as "Face Cream", but I also use it on my elbows (where I sometimes get dry skin). For the cost of a couple of pints, this cream will help protect your youthful, but manly good looks for years to come !
