Advantages: It actually works very quickly Disadvantages: A bit sticky
During my recent attack of flu, I found myself using kitchen roll to blow my nose which had some unfortunate side-effects - firstly, my wife went mad when I used the entire roll and secondly, it made my top lip and nasal area extremely sore.
In fact, the skin directly below my nose was an angry red colour and had more chaps than Bonanza (a 1970s cowboy series for you yougsters out there).
As my runny nose refused to stop streaming ... ...tissue used my top lip became worse.
As I am sure Bill Clinton would agree, I needed instant relief.
As I scoured the medicine cabinet a small tube dropped onto the kitchen work surface and at first I mistook it for one of the wife's lip gloss tubes but on closer inspection I noticed that it said "SOS Lip Balm" - just what I needed !

In fact, the skin directly below my nose was an angry red colour and had more chaps than Bonanza (a 1970s cowboy series for you yougsters out there). As my runny nose refused to stop streaming fluid I had to keep blowing it and with each tissue used my top lip became worse.
The tube itself is white and around 3 inches in length and has a screw-cap which, when removed, reveals an angled tip similar to a highlighter pen through which the contents can be squeezed.
The wording on the tube reveals that SOS Lip Balm is part of Nivea's lip care range and promises "Instant relief for sore lips".
I squeezed the tube and a small amount of the cream oozed out - it was quite thick and had a pleasant, clean aroma which made me think of flowers and soap (or soapy flowers) for some reason.
I gently rubbed the cream onto my sore lip and nose and was surprised to discover that it was rather viscose and clung to the area it had been applied to making it difficult to spread around. However, I learnt that by applying smaller amounts I didn't need as much cream and avoided rubbing my already sore skin more than was necessary as it simply soaked into the skin beneath.
Another surprise was that this cream really did give instant relief - the rawness on my skin began to fade within about 20 seconds of applying it. That's right - 20 seconds, not minutes.
I applied the cream every couple of hours and after 1 day, my skin was almost back to normal save for a tiny amount of redness.
Having done a small amount of research I discovered that SOS Lip Balm contains Calendula Oil and Panthenol to protect and repair the skin. It is also free of any kind of preservatives so as not to irritate chapped skin. The tube which I had was a 10ml size which sounds small but as you only need a tiny amount it lasts a very long time. My wife paid £2.89 for it from a local chemist.
So if you are unfortunate to suffer from dry, chapped skin then give this a go as it really does give instant relief.
Advantages: It works well, smells good, tastes nice and is good value Disadvantages: I can't think of one!
...One of my favourites is Nivea SOS Lip Balm currently priced £3.19 at Boots. Mind you as usual I wait until the lip balms are on special offer, which they often are, and buy three for the price of two. You might know I’d have a bargain there somewhere!
The lip balm comes fixed to a piece of cardboard by means of clear plastic so all the packaging is recycleable then, so that’s a good start as far as I am concerned. The tube itself also ends up in ... ...the tube is the words Nivea Lip Care SOS Lip Balm on the front and the address of the manufacturers in Germany on the back together with the web site address of www.nivea.com
When the cap is removed the top of the tube is angled similar to a new lipstick in shape, with a hole through which the cream will be squeezed.
There are now two choices for the method of application and I use either depending on how I feel at the time. The main thing in both ...

Advantages: eventually heals lips Disadvantages: feels heavy on the lips, tastes horrid & is expensive
...noticed a new product by Nivea called SOS Lip Balm. I thought that this was what I really needed, something that was going to go straight to work as, at this point, I have to admit, even at 32 that if there is a bit of chapped lip, I tend to, mainly unconsciously, tidy it up by biting or pulling. I always regret it as it mainly looks even worse afterwards!!! So you see my predicament, the quicker the product works, the better. For this reason, and ... ...and the tube has the Nivea Lip Care symbol with SOS LIP BALM below in red and smaller ‘Instant relief for sore lips’. Nivea claim that this product has been specially formulated by skin care experts to provide first aid for sore, dry and cracked lips. It states that it is easily absorbed containing calendula oil and panthenol which repairs skin. It instantly relieves sore, dry and cracked lips; soothes and regenerates lips and leaves a protective ...

Advantages: Healing, dosent need alot to make it work or constant applications Disadvantages: Not suitable for wearing if you are going out as its white
...a free sample of the Nivea SOS Hand Cream (would highly recommend) in the packet – so an added bonus! On first application I was very pleased with the texture, it was thick but not gloopy and didn’t come off easily which was nice as rubbing your lips together can sometimes make your lip balm disappear, and if you do have sore lips you inevitably will be rubbing and picking at them so its nice that it stays on. It was white, and you would not want ... ...it is thick in texture and is not for making your lips look nice, but I found that if you only put a small amount on it isn’t noticeable and can give you a ‘healthy’ gloss look. I use this lip balm everyday, and have not had the smallest sign of having chapped or in any way damaged lips. So it does the job, is cheap as chips (in Sainsbury’s) and a small amount goes a long way! I would defiantly recommend this to any potential buyers! ...

Advantages: Works well, smells and tastes nice and well packaged too. Disadvantages: Very expensive, tsk tsk Nivea!
...the original blue tub of Nivea cream is very versatile and will work for most of your moisturising needs. I always carry a small sample of it around in my hand bag and it can be used for anything from hand and body cream to eye cream (although be careful with sensitive/ oily skin). I have even used this cream to smooth out frizzy hair, using only a tiny amount rubbed into my palms and smoothing it over dry hair. I have also found it makes a great ... ...uses! So, in summary, Nivea SOS lip balm may be pricey, but it does what it promises and beats any other lip balm as far as I'm concerned. However, if you are credit-crunched at the moment, save money and simply use a small amount of Nivea cream for the same effect (although without the nice smell or taste!). ...
