Summer is fast approaching and a large majority of us will be out enjoying the suns warmth, whether sun bathing, playing on the beach, in the park, enjoying a spot of gardening or having fun with your kids. It is important to remember your sun protection especially at this time of year, no one wants their summer ruined by horrible sun burn or worse skin cancer. No matter your age or skin colour it is important to find the right sun care for you.
Nivea sun lotions are formulated with a UVA and UVB protection system which filters the suns UV rays to help provide protection from sun burn and long term damage to the skin. The system also reduces the risk of sun allergies. The lotions are dermatologically tested and proven to protect against the sun.
UVA/UVB UVB rays harm the skin's surface and are the primary cause of sunburn more penetrating UVA rays damage collagen and elastin, resulting in signs of premature aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, age spots, broken capillaries and uneven skin tone. UVB rays are mainly present in the summer months when the sun is at its closest rotation to the earth, UVB rays are harmful all year round.
"UVB light can cause skin cancer. The radiation excites DNA molecules in skin cells, causing covalent bonds to form between adjacent thymine bases, producing thymidine dimers. Thymidine dimers do not base pair normally, which can cause distortion of the DNA helix, stalled replication, gaps, and misincorporation. These can lead to mutations, which can result in cancerous growths" WWW.Wikipedia.com
(I know that last bit it awfully scientific but it's always best to back up serious claims like cancer)
While it would be easy to try and avoid UV rays they also have some benefits and induce production of Vitamin D within the skin which helps the body absorb calcium.Nivea Moisturizing Lotion- Nivea Moisturizing Sun Lotion provides all the sun protection of other Nivea sun care products but combines it with Niveas skin care and moisturizing abilities aiming to leave you not only protected from the harmful rays from the sun but also leave your skin silky and soft at the same time. When using Nivea moisturizing Sun Lotion you do not need to use a separate Nivea Moisturizing cream as the sun lotion will do the job instead.
Available in SPF 4, 8, 12, 15, 20, 30, 40 and 50+ it is recommended you use a factor no less than 15 for adults and 30 for children. Nivea sun lotion is fully water resistant with an estimated time of 4 hours resistancy. The product is rich in vitamin E which protects the skin from dehydration and minimises the loss of elasticity.
The product itself now comes in a deep blue plastic bottle with a yellow flip lid, it is certainly noticeable amongst all the other sun products on display. Usually in 200 ml bottles the lotion is medium thickness meaning it's easy to squeeze from the bottle and easy to rub into the skin but is not runny or liable to spill. The lotion is a pale creamy white colour and smells vaguely citrussy, in that classic sun cream way. Usage Instructions- -Apply liberally and re apply after every 20 minutes -Ensure all skin exposed to the sun is protected -Repeat application immediately after swimming -Avoid exposure to the sun between 11 and 3 pm -Do not expose young babies to direct sunlight -Always use a high SPF and cover children with light clothing, use Sunglasses and wide brim hats -If applying make up make sure your sun cream is applied first -Replace sun creams every year -You can burn through glass, cloud or glass so it is important to keep covered.
SPF Guide- Nivea's sun creams range in SPF from 2 to 50+ 2, 4 & 6 give low protection 8, 10, 12 give medium 15, 20, 25 give high protection and is the lowest recommended level 30, 40, 50 give very high protection, recommended for children 50+ gives "ultra" protection, is recommended for babies and children
Ingredients- I will list the ingredients as with all such products it is important to ensure you have no allergy to an ingredient before using the product.

Most pharmacies and some supermarkets will sell the Moisturizing Lotion as well as other Nivea sun care products. Nivea moisturizing sun lotion is available in the region of £5.00 for 200ml (price is for SPF 12 at Asda) many stores will do deals though and I was able to purchase 2 Nivea sun care products for £8 in Superdrug last summer. I would avoid buying from online stores though as the lowest price i've seen so far is £9.95 and that didn't include p&p.Other Nivea Sun Protection Products- Nivea have a wide range of skin care and sun care products, here I will list a selection of their sun care products as well as what UV rays they protect against, other added ingredients and their SPF, just in case a moisturizing lotion is not what you're after.

SPF 50 After Sun Lotion with Vitamin E
My Opinion- I have used Nivea sun care products for many years and have always been happy with them, I started with the children’s spray as I was insistent on my babies having proper coverage and protection. Because the products can be quite expensive I had normally used a cheaper own brand variety for my own (and other adults) skin but when I saw the products on offer I decided to invest in a well trusted brand for myself as well as my children.
I purchased the factor 15 protection which is the minimum recommended SPF for sun protection in most adults. I have been impressed by the results, I’m not much of a sun worshiper but with a young toddler I found myself outside much more last summer, I used the cream as instructed and didn't get sun burn once. I was particularly liberal with the cream on such areas as my nose, ears and shoulders as they were most often prone to burning and not even these became reddened by the sun.
I found that a pea sized blob of the cream would easily cover my arms and hands, so it really is a case of a little goes a long way. Despite frequent usage of the lotion I still had some left in the bottle by the end of the sunny season. Of course I have discarded this as it is recommended you replace your sun cream every year, especially children’s ones, the product does in fact have the symbol on the reverse of the bottle indicating it only has a 12 month life span..
I found the cream easy to apply, the bottle dispenses the cream slowly but evenly meaning I wasn't squeezing out too much and having lots of wasted cream. The nozzle never became clogged but if it does you can remove the cap to clean the nozzle or if you wish to squeeze out a more substantial amount of cream. The design of the cap also prevented sand getting within the bottle and spoiling the cream during sea side visits, the flip lid is easy to use so perhaps best to keep out of the kid’s way otherwise you may find your little one has opened the bottle and coated him or herself in the entire contents.
The cream itself is easily absorbed but initially left my skin, especially my hands, feeling a little greasy, saying that though it was not sticky so I could be happy using it on the beach and not have to worry about getting covered in itchy sand. It is very pleasant smelling with just a hint of scent, nothing overpowering, you certainly wont get people looking at you strangley or sniffing in your deirection because you smell funny.
In regards to the moisturizing aspect I have to say this is a perfect product for me, I am useless at remembering to use all my lotions, potions and moisturizers so a sun cream that moisturizes is great. I don’t need to worry about all the other moisturizers as this sun cream takes care of that for me, I found it left the skin on my arms and legs particularly smooth, although due to the initial greasy feeling of the cream I use a lot less of it on my face and therefore do not get such good results as a moisturizer. As with most moisturizers of course it will have limited effect and once you stop using the cream at the end of summer you would need to start using another moisturizing product in it's place.
I cannot comment much on the water resistance of the product as you wouldn't catch me any where near the sea and I had recently given birth last summer so I was not getting into a swimming costume and taking a dip. I can say though that after having dipped my hands in the kids paddling pool the excess water seemed to trickle off nicely, still despite this I would still be inclined to reapply to lotion directly after going in the water, you can never be too careful when it comes to those suns rays!
My sister has used this cream and she is very prone to sun allergies, burning and reactions to products. The cream prevented her skin burning (with regular applications) and she had no allergic reaction from the cream itself. I mention this as I personally am not prone to reactions and allergies but feel it is good to know all the effects a product might have, if my sister had no reaction I can say this is a gentle product.
I would certainly recommend this sun lotion, for me it did what it claimed, protected against the sun and moisturized my skin, having only used the factor 15 I cannot comment on the other SPF levels. It is a well known brand which has lived up to it's reputation and I would happily use their products again.

...I keep a bottle of Nivea Moisturising Sun Lotion on hand in my bathroom cabinet or in my travel bag when on holiday. I have always liked Nivea products; I particularly like the way they smell and this sun tan lotion is no exception. The smell reminds me of summer, which I'm sure you'll agree is no bad thing. It isn't an easy smell to describe, kind of clean and caring and like holidays, but if you have ever smelt a Nivea product then you will know what I am talking about

Nivea :-
Nivea is one of my favorite brands from washing, shaving, moisturising and sun lotions.
Priced very reasonably with products that work.
Nivea first came on the scene in 1911 with a moisturising creme and the brand has gone from strength to strength.

Advantages: an excuse to lie in the bath longer Disadvantages: doesn't have any real effect on your skin
... I'm looking for sympathy here people, just a little will do. In the absence of any of these things a girl has to make do with what she can. In my cupboard packed with goodies lounged the Nivea face mask. A single serving of it in it's little pouch. Well, what the hell I thought, 'pampering' sounds just the job, more friendly than a tight clay or a sticky peel.
I wrestled my way into it with my teeth and squeezed out a handful of the thick white cream. It looked and smelt like a normal body moisturiser, infact exactly like normalNivealotion, not quite what I was expecting from a face mask, but I smeared it over my face and lay back down in the bubbles for 15 minutes for a snooze. Advantages: Does what it says on the bottle - as long as your expectations are realistic Disadvantages: May seem a bit costly - around twice the price of "normal" body lotions from Nivea/Vaseline
fragrance. When applied, it feels a bit sticky or greasy, but the lotion absorbs quickly into the skin and within 10 minutes or so and skin starts feeling really smooth and supple.
I've had dry, eczema-prone skin all my life, and they could certainly do with a bit of moisture. However in the past, I've tried many drugstore body lotions, including NIVEA's classic blue tin Creme and its newer white plastic tub NIVEA SOFT INTENSIVE MOISTURISING CREME, Vaseline Intensive Care Dry Skin Lotion and none of these products actually worked to produce long-lasting moisturisation (though they're almost half the price cheaper than NIVEA's Q10 Firming Lotion) - normally I have to reapply skin creams over my body a few times a day to keep skin feeling and looking hydrated. NIVEA Firming Lotion with Q10 is the first body lotion I've used which actually kept ...
Advantages: It was cheap, it smells nice and feels nice Disadvantages: Doesn't moisturise my skin well enough, takes too long to soak in

So to sum up, I would not recommend this product to anyone, unless they just want something to rub over themselves to make them go ‘zing’ for a few seconds after showering. I think that even ‘normal’ skins need more substance in a body moisturiser than this offers.
Nivea usually make great products, that is why I was happy to try this. I recommend that you try another one of their moisturisers such as;
