Nizoral shampoo to me is the Emperor of the anti-dandruff shampoos.
I have used this now for three years. I am 46 and have suffered from dandruff for over 25 years. During those years I have used various anti-dandruff shampoos of various strengths and duration. All have worked temporarily; some for a long time others for a few months. My dandruff has always returned, it seems to get immune to the shampoo, and builds up a resistance.
I have checked this and apparently dandruff is the result of yeast, grease, or fungus, or all of them. This results in the flakes and bits of dead skin. So if it is a fungus then like bacteria I suppose it would build up resistance to the shampoo in use at the time.
In my case if I let it get out of hand then it is like a snowstorm. I hate it. I always get the impression people think you are dirty.
When I first used it for the very first time it made my dandruff twice as bad for a few days. I suppose this is where it burnt off the dead skin. The second application saw the dandruff practically disappear. The third and it had gone. This was my own experience. I used it about once a fortnight after this and the dandruff stayed away.
On the bottle it tells you to use twice a week for 2-4 weeks. My dandruff had gone in a week and a half. It also tells you to use once or twice a fortnight to keep the dandruff away so I suggest you use it to get rid of the dandruff and then adjust the frequency to suit your own individual needs.
The main ingredient is Ketoconazole. I haven’t got a clue what this is, but it is very effective. It also contains hydrochloric acid although only in minute amounts, thankfully. That is pretty strong stuff.
It is pink in colour and thick like treacle. You only need to put it on your scalp, not all your hair. I am a man and have short hair so I don’t need much but you ladies with long hair will have to be careful to just put in on your scalp as otherwise it can prove costly. When my hair is longer I usually use another shampoo after the Nizoral just to make sure my hair is washed properly. You ladies may need to do this. Your choice.
Which brings me onto the next point. Price. At present for a 100ml bottle, I am paying £7.95. For the smaller bottle 60ml, and it only comes in two sizes it is about £5.95. The smaller bottle lasts me about 6-8 weeks. The larger one twice as long. This shampoo does differ in price I have seen it cheaper and more expensive in various outlets. You cannot buy this product off the shelf. You have to ask for it, so you need somewhere with a pharmacy. If it is a decent pharmacy the pharmacist may ask you a few questions, as I believe there is conflicting products that do not mix with Nizoral. CHECK IF YOUR NOT SURE. I personally have had no problems and no side effects.
I sometimes get lazy using this product because you have to leave it on your scalp for 3-5 minutes; this is what the instructions say anyway. I have always left it on for the full five minutes. So I sometimes go a few weeks without using it, down to time mostly. So occasionally, where I have not used it the dandruff returns. Three applications and it has always disappeared again
It comes in a box, and is a white plastic bottle with a small pink label on the front. The usage instructions are clear and simple. On the back there is a white label saying external use only and keep out of reach of children. There is also an instruction leaflet in the box, with some warnings and advice, and also some answers to common questions.
Jansson-Cilag Ltd makes it and they are based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
Conclusion.
A very effective anti-dandruff shampoo. Does everything it claims to do and controls the dandruff well. 100% effectiveness for me. On the negative side, the price may put some people off, but it does last a long time if you don’t put loads on your head. You only need a small amount.

...told me to lather the nizoral into my hair like normal shampoo and leave for 3-5 minutes. I duly did. It lathered well, and was a nice pink colour. To say it is a medicinal shampoo i was pleasantly suprised by the smell, which, while it wasnt chanel no5, was not offensive to the senses.
After the first use, i noticed some improvement-less itching, and less worrying scabs. It also left my hair lovely and clean, and shinier than my normal shine-enhancing ...
...my normal shampoo in between nizoral treatments, and it worked a treat!
After two weeks my hair and scalp were fine again, and I was once more breaking hearts all over town.:)
Nizorals a bit pricy at about nine quid for 120ml, but it does work, and doesnt expire for a few years if the problem reoccurs(hasnt yet, touch wood!)

...to do is use my Nizoral again and it clears up straight away.
And you can now buy it over the counter at most leading chemists, i buy mine from Boots.
It is a tad expensive though, £5.75 for 60ml or £8.75 for 100ml, but when you think of how little you will use it, after initially getting rid of your dandruff, it is worth every penny.
Forget all the rest, this baby is the best, and i will never use anything else. ...

...After washing my hair with Nizoral dandruff shampoo just three times my dandruff cleared and my scalp looked healthy and did not itch. Also, it did not irritate my sensitive skin like other shampoos had done in the past.
I followed the advice on the bottle and my dandruff has never re-established itself. I now use Nizoral once a week, alternating with Polytar, and my hair is clean, dandruff-free and looks good. The shampoo is a rather lurid translucent, ...
...slightly thicker than typical shampoo and you don't seem to need much to get good lather.
If you have a dandruff problem give it a try. It is expensive, so it is worth getting it via your GP, especially if you get free prescriptions. Current prices are £5.99 for a 60ml bottle & $8.99 for a 100ml bottle. ...
