A few weeks ago my fish and I experienced a few traumatic experiences all at once, the first was the death of my oldest fish, nothing too major but that all I found of my beloved friends body was its head, the second that my Mum and her partner served an eviction notice on my aquarium which had for almost 3 months resided in their front room whilst I was working in Kent (it was kinder to leave them then try and transprt them such a long distance but I found the separation painful indeed it may have been contributory to my leaving that job) and finally one of my Angelfish fell sick within days of the move.
So given that my poor fish was telling me it was in great pain due to its eye beginning to swell out of its head (a thing which in the slim bodied Angel looks horrific) I ran down to the local aqautic superstore - I was waiting at the front door before it even opened such was my concern for my baby. My consultation of my books and an internet research confirmed my suspiscions that my baby had an internal bacterial infection manifesting itself as 'pop eye'. As with all fish illnesses this must be treated quickly or risk losing not only the visibly sick fish but having the sickness infect other fish in your aquarium.
Thankfully as I had only just moved my aquarium in to my bedroom I still had my 20 ltr tank set up and was able to isolate my sick friend, while this temporary hosptial was not the comfortable rooms we would expect from private treatment the bare tank with simply a heater and filter is more than adequate for the treatment of a fish as it has little to bump in to so there is less risk of it further damaging itself. So looking awfully lonely my fish spent its time looking through the glass in to the neighbouring tank where its friends happily frolic around the new aquarium decor. But sadly over night its second eye had begun to pop and the first one popping had turned bright blood red - remember this has happened in less than 24 hours so clearly treatment must be fast.
This is where Interpet no 9 comes in, it is stated as a treatment for Internal Bacterial Infections in all types of fish, it is a liquid which you add to the water in necessarily precise amounts depending on the size of your aquarium. You must use two doses several days apart to effectively treat the fish. The amounts to be used can be worked out from the instuctions given in the booklet provided, the amounts are easily measured using either the cap of the bottle of the pipette. The 100ml bottles cost between £3 and £8 depending where you buy it from and I have seen at some online retailers a 1ltr bottle for around £30. You must remove the carbon/zeolite from your filtration or they will neutralise this solution, also it is highly recommended that you do regular water changes if you do have sick fish as the bacteria in the old water can make the sickness worse in some cases.
I treated not only my sick fish but the main aquarium as well just in case any fish were infected but yet to show symptoms. On the second day of treatment my poor angel was getting progessively worse, both eyes were protruding almost 50mm from its head and were both blood red, it wasnt eating and seemed to be getting thinner as well as the top of its nose seeming to have hollowed out, but it seemed more active so I was hopeful. Unfortunately over night it passed away, which in all honesty was for the best, leaving me to wonder if the medication was effective or if I could have caught the infection earlier - my conclusion is that I couldnt have done any more than I did and none of my other fish have got sick with the treatment in the other tank.
The treatment is toxic to none aquatic pets and humans (though why you would drink it I am unsure) but to prevent small hands getting hold of it there is a childsafe cap - took me ages to get it open. The range is one which is probably worth keeping some of to hand, I for example have some of the white spot treatment and the anit velvet/slime treatments in case any new fish I purchase bring the diseases in with them, and as yet I have lost no fish due to these things.
Overall though on this occasion I did lose a friend I believe the range to be effective treatments and well worth the price I paid (£5 from an aquatic superstore though I have since found it for £3 from a much smaller retailer on the same road) and will be sprinting down to the shops to obtain any other treatments as and when I may require them. After all we will do whatever we can to help our pets live happy and healthy lives no matter what their size or value.
Advantages: Offers a good chance of cure if used quickly Disadvantages: Harmful to humans and non-aquatic pets, advanced stages of bacterial infection are often incurable
Interpet are one of the leading manufacturers in aquarium products. Having traded since 1952, they offer excellent quality products and nearly 50 years of experience. There’s a quite extensive range of equipment and preparations which are beneficial to fish keepers, and of course more importantly to the fish themselves.
Anti Internal Bacteria, No. 9 in the Interpet Aquarium Treatment range, is a very useful water treatment for fish enthusiasts ... ...and general pet shops.
Interpet treatments are value for money, but as with any medication should be treated with care. Storage should be in a cool dark place, and away from the reaches of children and pets. If the product is accidentally swallowed, contact your GP (or vet in the case of your pet) and give both the name and code number (found on the bottle and box) of the product. This will allow correct advice to be given.

Fish are not like cats or dogs as pets, by the time you realise your fish has something wrong with him it is usually too late, unfortunately any bacterial infection in your tank will spread very quickly to your other fish but there is a treatment you can use to help with this.
No9 anti internal bacteria is fantastic in fighting bacterial infections in your water such as gill rot, dropsey, ulcers and septicaemia.
The second you notice something ... ...water will help to treat that fish aswell as any others infected but will also controll the spread of infection to healthy fish.
This is realy easy to use as you get a dropper with the bottle when you buy it, all you need to do is work out how much water is in your tank and add 1ml of this solution for every 5 liters of water you have, i buy mine in bottles of 100ml which is enough to treat 500 liters of water and costs me £3,99, it does make your ...
