Having lost my previous eyeliner, I thought I'd try out another one in the No7 range from Boots.
~ Price and Packaging ~This is currently priced at £7.75 but it's sometimes worth waiting for the quite regular 3 for 2 offer that No7 seem to have.
This is a long eye pencil with a gold cover on one end covering the pencil section and a transparent cover on the other end which goes over a soft sponge tip.The eye pencil is available in 3 shades: black, blue-grey and brown.
~ My Experience ~I used to use liquid eyeliner on my top lid and save the pencil ones for the inside of my lower lid but given my growing years I felt that the liquid ones were beginning to look a little too drastic and harsh.
I've never been that adept at applying a pencil liner to my upper eyelid as the ones that I have used in the past have never glided very well across this area and always felt a little too hard and 'scratchy'. Not so with this product. It's promise of a 'creamy formula allowing for smooth application without dragging the delicate eye area is indeed correct. The pencil feels a whole lot softer and smoother across my upper lid and makes for a much easier application.
The effect on the upper lid is pleasing and although black, it doesn't give a harsh look. This may not be so great for someone who wants a dramatic black look around their eyes. The sponge at the opposite end of the pencil is for 'smudging' the pencil to give what I assume to be a softer look. I haven't used this on my eyes, but a friend of mine has and it definitely does create a softer, dare I say 'smoky' look to the eyes. Not being that 'clever' at applying eye make up, I haven't had much success with using the eyeliner under my lower eye lid, it just looked messy but I have applied it to the inside of my lower lid for a little bit of definition. Sadly the creamy nature of the pencil means that it doesn't give the same definition on this area as some of the harsher more stubborn eye pencils that I have used and it comes off very quickly.
On the other hand, on the upper eyelid the pencil lasts right for a long time yet is easy to remove unlike some other more stubborn eyeliners.I only use this on evenings out but have found that it does need sharpening after a few applications. In the past I have always used a bog standard pencil sharpener to sharpen the wooden eye pencils but with this one it didn't really work so I invested in a No7 eye pencil sharpener when they had one of their 3 for 2 offers available.
In my opinion this is a very good eye pencil for somone who like me doesn't like the harshness of other pencils on the delicate eye area. It gives a subtle but long lasting effect and for me is easier to apply than others previously tried.
Fortunately I don't have sensitive eyes but it's worth noting for anyone who does that this is hypo-allergenic.All in all, I'm happy with this product although I would prefer it if it stayed on the inner lower lid. As for amazing eyes....... Not quite!
