Nokia 2600 - I am prone to dropping my mobile phone. I'm not usually that clumsy, I just can't seem to look after my phones. The one I had before this Nokia 2600 was also a nokia. My boyfriend had given me his old one as he is on a contract and got an upgrade. The old one had a camera, colour screen, radio etc etc. When I eventually broke that one too I asked myself what I actually needed in a phone, and was it worth spending a small fortune on a load of features I was never going to use.
The Nokia 2600 isn't a camera, a radio, an MP3 or video player, it is simply a phone, but what a great phone. It makes phone calls and allows you to text. What more could you want.
Nokia is a brand I know well and a company that I can trust. Their phones are durable (unless continually dropped) and reliable. I decided to stick with Nokia. I went into a few shops to see what cheap phones they had that wouldnt weigh a ton. To my delight there were about four to choose from. I went round and looked at all the best offers and finally decided to go with the Carphone Warehouse.
PRICE
The deal was a Nokia 2600 on pay as you go with an orange sim card for £40. You get £10 free credit so essentially you only pay £30 for the phone. At the time I bought mine the guy in the shop couldn't get the credit on so the manager said I could just pay the £30. I got a real bargain. If you hunt around you will get a good deal.
MAKING A CALL
The contact list is very accessible. You simply press down and either manually scroll down the list, or enter the initial of the person to find everyone starting with that letter. Once you have found the number all you need to do is press one button for the number to be dialled. The reception is good, I never have a problem with people not being able to hear me.
THE LOOK OF THE PHONE
Considering the price of this phone it really doesn't look cheap. The fascia is metallic grey with a black keypad and sides. It is elegant and modern and looks like a 'grown-ups' phone. It is nice and light (Weight: 94.5g) and only ten cm long.
EASE OF USE
Like all Nokias this phone is really easy to use. It has a colour screen (4,096-color display, 128 x 128 pixels), buttons that are easy to press and a menu that a child could understand.
BATTERY
They claim the battery lasts for 2 - 3.5 hours talk time and 250 hours standby. This means if you are not using the phone the battery will last for about 10 days. I am constantly using my phone, mainly to text, and I find I have to charge my phone about every 2 days or so. This is far better than any other phone I have had in the past.
MENU
In the menu there are 9 sub categories. You can choose to have big icons and the name written underneath so you have to scroll down to each one, or you can have all the options on the one screen. The sub categories are;
MESSAGES, CONTACTS, CALL REGISTER, SETTINGS, ALARM CLOCK, REMINDERS, GAMES AND EXTRAS - I did initially detail all the information you need to know about the categories but some people found this too much. So I have outlined the main points you need to know.
All these categories are pretty standard on most phones. You can call people, receive calls, text message people and receive text messages.
I have only used one other phone that wasn't a nokia and that was a flip phonemotorola which is my mum's. Compared to the motorola this Nokia is extremely easy to use. The features listed below are very user friendly and will not take up lots of your time trying to figure out how to use them.
The feature that impressed me most was the settings. For the price I paid for this phone I didn't expect many choices at all. There are 34 different ringtones under tone settings. There is a choice of 30 different themes you can put on your phone under each profile.
I have listed below all the sub-categories and a little about them.
1) MESSAGES - You can save up to 60 messages When you are creating a message you have predictive texting, which if like me you send a lot of messages this is really helpful. The picture messages are simple little images that are already stored in the phone. It does not mean you can add your own photos.
2) CONTACTS - Phonebook can store up to 200 entries and up to 250 entries on the SIM card.
3) CALL REGISTER - Enables you to keep track of all your call histories.
4) SETTINGS - All the various profiles and call settings etc cam be changed. You can have cute little moving screensavers if you do not touch your phone for a short period of time, and a rhythmic back light when your phone is on silent if you prefer.
5) ALARM CLOCK - You can choose the date, time and tone, and when it does go off there is the option to press snooze and it will go off again in another ten minutes!
6) REMINDERS - You can add a reminder onto any date in the calendar and set the alarm to remind you on that date. You do not have to activate the alarm on the reminder. I use this to put in important dates so I can look back on them if I need to.
7) GAMES - The games are just a bit of fun. Ok to pass the time on a train etc. Bounce: Guide the ball over obstacles and pass through hoops. Quite difficult to control at first but ok when you get used to it. Nature Park: Same idea as tetris but much harder to control and more difficult to score points. MobileSoccer: Mini match or skill school, you can decide.
8) EXTRAS - A few little handy extras have been added. A calculator, Converter (which will convert temperature, weight, length, area and volume), Spreadsheet Calendar, Countdown Timer, Stopwatch, and Composer
OVERALL
If you are after a phone and not a gadget that does everything and more the Nokia 2600 is perfect for you. All the basic features you would expect from a phone and some small extra features as a bonus! Nice looking phone at a brilliant price. I definitely recommend this phone.

Great review, I'm always dropping my phone too and managed to smash the screen once which cost £40 to repair. Think I might get one of these on my next upgrade. Gayna x
