The 2610 is a 'candybar' phone which is just about the most basic model that Nokia have made since the late 90's. I bought mine for £20 to use as a cheap phone when doing things that could harm my Blackberry but since breaking my Blackberry I have used the 2610 as my main phone and so here are my thoughts on it.
Look and Feel
... ...set out in the traditional Nokia layout and the screen is behind a semi-mirrored screen. However impressive this mirroring looks, it makes the phone almost impossible to read in anything but near-darkness as it reflects so much. The rear battery cover is semi-rubberised which feels quite good. In summary the phone looks and feels like a luxury phone from 2001.
Durability and Robustness
I break mobiles. I don't mean to but it ... more
Mobile phone users in my experience fall into one of two categories. There are those who absolutely insist on having the best iPhone/Blackberry or similar phone which they can fill with applications and store their entire record collection, as well as watch all of their favourite films. Then there are those in the second category who look at their mobiles as though they are covered in an unpleasant substance and pretend that they have no idea how to use these 'modern gadgets'. The Nokia 2610 is very much for those in the latter category.
Look and Feel The 2610 looks a lot more expensive and impressive than it really is. The keys are set out in the traditional Nokia layout and the screen is behind a semi-mirrored screen. However impressive this mirroring looks, it makes the phone almost impossible to read in anything but near-darkness as it reflects so much. The rear battery cover is semi-rubberised which feels quite good. In summary the phone looks and feels like a luxury phone from 2001.
Durability and Robustness I break mobiles. I don't mean to but it just happens. Bearing this in mind, the 2610 is doing remarkably well after about 7 months of solid use. Everything still works correctly and the casing is pretty much untouched. Unfortunately I have often put my phone in my pocket next to my keys and so the screen is quite scratched. Still perfectly readable though.
Battery standby time Pretty much forever. As long as you don't spend your life texting and making calls, the 2610 will remain on standby for days at a time. I recently went over 7 days before having to charge it but this was with barely any use. Even on days when the thing never stops ringing, the notches of the battery meter never seem to decrease. Far better than Blackberries and HTC phones I have used but then again the 2610 doesn't have anything like the number of functions.
Value for money Twenty pounds for this phone is an absolute bargain. Even if you only use it a few times such as heavy nights out or hiking, it is reliable and costs a fraction of most other handsets.
Range of features Probably better to list what this phone doesn't have as it sets the scene better. It doesn't have a camera, bluetooth, 3G, wifi, mms (useless without camera anyway) or a clear screen. Other than the above it has pretty much everything that a handset many times more expensive would offer. Reception is very good and the speaker in the handset very clear. Certainly no complaints on using it as a phone or texting machine with the latter being controlled by predictive or non-predictive texting.
Summary If you hate modern gadgetry and simply want a reliable, tough phone that will send texts and make calls then this is all you need. It is basic but it doesn't pretend to be anything else and it is the kind of item that you won't worry too much about losing when compared to an iPhone or similar which cost many times more than the 2610.
Advantages: Cheap, simple to use, nice big easy to see and use buttons Disadvantages: Not the smallest phone around, no bluetooth, or other fancy extras, not a lot of memory
...came to replace my ageing Nokia 7210i. And, my did it serve me well. Nearly 4 years and still going strong (I say going strong, the battery was dying every day, and it looked like a dog had a go at it...). But what phone to get? I didn't want anything complicated. I didn't even want a camera. I never used it on my other phone, why would I need one on my new phone? I could have even done without a colour screen. All I wanted was a phone I could talk ... ...It had to be a Nokia also. I've only ever had Nokias, I really like their menu layout. And so it was, I'd have the Nokia 2610. It was a steal at only £39.99. And it was the only Nokia availavble for under £50.
Three day's later, the phone arrived. First impressions were good. It looked nice, and it was very light, but the case didn't feel very strong, and there's a bit of a give if you apply some pressure to the back. I immediately phoned up Orange ...

Advantages: cheap and basic model, simple to use Disadvantages: cheap design and not really worth the price
...of the cheapest made by Nokia but in the end it doesn't seem worth it, I bought it to my father because he needed "just a mobile phone" with no extravagant features and I noticed this basic model. I soon realized it was a mistake. The most unpractical thing that I noticed soon after I bought it is the monitor light. The monitor shows the clock (which is good) but you can't see anything unless you touch any button to activate the light... touching ... ...you have to quit the menu end return to the main screen before you can see what time it is... so if you wanted to use this as a clock too FORGET IT because it's really unpractical. A few months ago an amazing thing happened... dust started to collect BEHIND the glass that covers the screen, if it was hard to see the clock without activating the light before, now it's pratically impossible. I cannot even clean it because the protective screen is attached ...

Advantages: As above Disadvantages: Dark screen, annoying to use for texting. Hard to check 'interace' issues in-store, though...
A good basic phone. + Reliable. Have dropped it a couple of times to no ill effect. Very limited extras (in fact, i don't use what extras are available, and would actually prefer not having to interface with them).
+ Cheap - I think I paid £34 + Longish battery life (I only charge it twice a week or so, using the energy save settings) + Good memory capacity for texts
+ Stylish (I think) - Very annoying to actually *work* with texts (I just counted, ... ...start texting!!!)
- The screen is very dark - can't see it in sunlight. - Personal preference (women with big bags, you might agree): I have realised that a larger phone, more easily identifiable as 'mobile' , might serve better than this tiny thing when rooting through a densely populated handbag. - Reception not great but that I think has to do with my provider, rather than the product ...

Advantages: Small and easy navigation Disadvantages: Lacks a few modern touches
After my lovely Nokia 6230 had a run in with a washing machine I finally had to replace it. The phone I chose was the 2610 and I think its great!
ITs size and weight are perfect it fits in the hand perfectly, I have no worries about dropping it as the back and sides offer plenty of grip to hold it. The buttons are large enough so that you can quickly type a message without the worry of hitting the wrong key! The sreen is an excellent size not so ... ...you need.
Like all nokia phones it uses the same generic charger, and same menu style layout allowing for a very quick and simple navigation artound differnet menus.
It does have one major draw back though when charging then screen shuts down so you cant see the time. I love this little phone it's basic and simple to use however it does lack a few of the more modern touches, if your looking for a relativley cheap phone that does what a phone needs ...
