I have had my Nokia 3100 for a few months now and am starting to get along nicely with it. I found it difficult at the beginning because I had upgraded to this phone from a nokia 3310, this phone I had had for about two years and I could work it quickly and easily. The reason that I wanted to upgrade my phone was because the 3310 is a bit dated now and newer phones have more functions to them. I was not really interested in getting a photo phone and looking at the other mobiles that are available at the moment and this 3100 looked good and had plenty of extras on it. I got a special offer of 10% off the original price which is £129.99 so I managed to get it for a bit of a bargain to which is always good. I am on pay as you go on the O2 network.

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
This phone is very small compared to my old one and I was a bit worried about losing it. It is small enough to fit easily into a pocket and hardly be noticed. It has a full colour screen and the buttons are very small. I don’t have particularly big fingers but I still find that I am pressing the other keys when I am putting in a number or trying to send a text. The casing that comes with this phone is mainly cream and blue but there are other fascias that can be brought and put on.

WAP
This phone has WAP internet access. This is the first mobile I have had with this function and to start off with it was a novelty which I quickly worked out was going to cost me a lot of money. Connecting is very easily done (sometimes by mistake) by pressing the top right hand button. Finding your way around this is also easy and very straight forward.

RINGTONES AND WALLPAPER
This phone has Polyphonic ringtones which I didn’t have on my other phone. The phone comes with many ringtones already programmed in which you can choose from but there are not many different sounds for your text message alert, they are just basic ones that I had on my other phone. Because the phone has wap it is easy to download a sound or ringtone from there for a small charge. There are also loads of wallpapers and screensavers for use on this phone and although the phone does not have a camera built in you can receive pictures that you could use as your screen saver.

MENU/NAVIGATION
The phone menus are quite clear, and the navigation is easy using the arrow keys on the phone. I have had no trouble finding my way around this phone, it is very straight forward and easy to use. Each different phone function can be accessed trough the menu simply by pressing the buttons.

GAMES
Java games - There are 3 games that come free with this phone and it is possible to download more games although these will cost you around £1.50 per game. I very rarely play the games that are on the phone, so I will not need to download any more. The games included on the phone are Bowling, Beach Rally and the good old Snake EX2 game. All the games have clear instructions on how to play them and they have a music tune which I have not been able to turn off, so Playing these games in a quiet place could be embarrassing.

STANDBY/TALKTIME
The battery life on this phone is very good. It allows you a lot of talktime and when it is on standby it seems to last forever. When I first got the phone I charged it until the full signal appeared on the screen. It took about 3 hours. The battery life improves greatly after it has been charged and emptied a few times. It no only takes about 2 hours to charge the battery to full level.

OTHER FEATURES
Nokia Xpress-on Gaming covers can be brought for about £9.99 and can be easily put on your phone to jazz it up a little bit.

Hands free speaker - This is a great facility so that if you are driving you can put the phone onto the loud speaker and still be able to hear what people on the phone are saying. I have found the sound quality is very good on this mode. It comes across loud and clear. One thing to bear in mind is that if you are talking about people beware because they might be able to hear you.

Colour display - The screen is full colour and the quality of the picture is very sharp and good.

Glow-in-the-dark cover - After the phone has been left in the light for a while the outside edge of the case will then glow in the dark. This looks very good and makes the phone very easy to see where it is.

Flashing lights - The phone has a flashing light when the phone rings or you receive a text message. You can even set it so it flashes in time with your ring tone. This looks really good and impresses my friends who do not have this facility on their phones.

Multimedia Messaging - It is possible to send and receive photos and pictures on this phone although the camera attachment is sold separately.

Other useful features that this phone has are a calculator, alarm, and timer and stopwatch, Picture gallery, calendar. These are all very easy to use.

The phone has a lot of memory to store photos, ringtones, and your phonebook. It also stores text messages that have been sent and received. Remembering to delete these occasionally will help keep memory space available.

CONCLUSION
This is a great little phone that I have now got used to and I find it very easy to use. Making a call is very straight forward, phone numbers can be either typed in or found very quickly in the phonebook.
Text messaging is simple to do, the predictive text makes it very quick and the phone has a lot of words stored and you can add more.

It is a lot lighter and smaller than phones I have had in the past. This phone would be suitable for someone who wants a phone that does what phones are supposed to do, make calls. It looks good with the rhythmic flashing when the phone is ringing.

Overall I would give this phone 8/10

I agree with what the other members have said about your review. It is well thought out, factual and incorporates lots of your thoughts on the 3100. Exceptional. Thanks for sharing.
