Let me start by saying that I'm not really that bothered about mobile phones. I don't get excited about them. IAs far as I'm concerned, it's a tool, not a fashion item.I got my first one about 18 months ago because at times my job is dangerous and I need to have a way of contacting my employer - or the police. If it wasn't for that, I probably still wouldn't have a mobile phone.
So, about 18 months ago I got a Nokia 3410 on a Vodafone contract. It was fine. The phone did what I needed it to do - it made and received calls, it sent and received texts, and I could turn it to silent if necessary. Oh, and once the alarm clock was set, it remained set until reset or turned off. It was robust, it stood up to being slung in my bag and ignored, it was fine.
About a month ago I was contacted and offered an upgrade of my phone. Because I'm not a heavy user my choice was limited, and I took the 3100. I wanted pink, they only had blue. Oh well.
I've had the 3100 phone a month, sold the 3410, and I really wish I hadn't bothered. The sound is rubbish. Even with the volume turned all the way up, it's poor and the reception isn't great, in places where the 3410 coped fine. The 3100 buttons are awkward to use and feel cheap and plasticky (probably because they are cheap and plasticky). The screen is marked already and the LCD or LED display, whatever it is, is very dark. The back falls off at the slightest provocation (but is really hard to remove when you actually want to), the battery falls out, the SIM card disconnects itself. I turned the phone off at bedtime one night last week, left it on the bedside table all night, turned it on in the morning, and the SIM had somehow come loose from its connection and had to be reinstalled. A twenty second job, fair enough, but why? That never happened in 18 months of using the 3410.
And the alarm clock only sets for one use at a time! With the 3410, I set it for the right time, and it went off every morning. With the 3100, I have to re-set the damn thing every day.
I hate this phone. I wish I'd never changed it. I wish I'd kept my old 3410. The one thing that I would like about this phone is polyphonic ring tones (the 3410 is just mono) but I have no idea how to be wap enabled to get them!
