The 3210 has a data connection port built in to the circut board that allows you to connect the phone to a PC. The data cables allow you to unlock your phone with unlocking software to use different network's SIM cards in a phone locked to a particular service provider. Unlocking with a data cable is now not neccesary as there are websites that provide the unlocking codes for free, calculated from the phone's IMEI number and the network code.
The cables are still useful as they allow you to activate features hidden in some models, such as the hidden games; react and logic, plus you can activate the line 2 facility and enable the vibrate function, with the Nokia Profile programme. To allow your phone to vibrate you still have to fit a vibra motor.
The cable also allows you to download operator logos, picture messages and ringtones to your phone, back up your SIM card contacts, and send texts messages (including flash ones) while typing on the keyboard.
If you own a 3210 or 3210e, having a data cable is a very useful addition, and the cost of these is now quite low.

Advantages: NO limit on the number of ringtones/logos sent, quick, easy and best of all FREE! Disadvantages: Small selection of ringtones (but growning constanty)
