I've had this phone for four months now, and it really has been a pleasure to own. It's an attractive, smart model which also has a lot of good features hidden behind its fascia. It may not have a colour screen or take photos, but I would say that getting the basics right is more important - and that is what Nokia seem to have done.
The 3510 has ousted my trusty old 6210 (just re-editing the review for that, too!). I had the 6210 for a year and liked most of what it did and really thought I might miss it too much and swap back. However, in the end the 3510 turned out to be, to me, just like a 6210 with all the minor irritations fixed.
So, firstly let's be shallow and go by appearances! It's a very neat little thing - a nice shape being curved but not overly so. The shape is comfy to hold and fits easily into a pocket. To be precise, it's 120mm by 48mm at its biggest points and the thickness varies from 20mm to 15mm. The weight is just right too - light, but doesn't feel fragile.
There's a largish screen, and well-spaced buttons which are easy to operate. The power button is out of the way at the top edge of the phone and can also be used to quickly flip between ringing profiles. As is the trend, you can also change the front and rear covers. The side is tranlucent and glows from the backlight which looks quite funky. The standard cover also has an anti-slip bump on the back to stop your new phone getting knocked flying across smooth surfaces like desks and worktops. I have dropped it once or twice, but it's stood up fine and not really minded the odd bump. I'm also pleased that the slightly recessed nature of the screen has stopped it getting scratched easily like the 6210 and 8210 did.
In use, the 3510 is as simple as all the other Nokias I've come across. The menu system uses a simple pair of up and down scroll buttons, plus two "soft" keys which do different things at different times such as select, confirm or cancel.
Nokia's standard type of shortcut is included as ever - press "select" then the right sequence of numbers worked out from those shown with menu options. There are separate buttons to start and end a call, which I think probably makes it a bit easier to understand for novice users. It's also possible to set the keypad to lock itself after a given delay as well as manually, so that you'll never make an accidental call again! There's also the pointless but jolly option of giving your phone a 'screensaver' when it's idle - one of which is a useful giant clock.
Call quality is fine and clear, and reception is strong, though very slightly worse than my old 5110 with a little stubby external aerial. Battery life is very good: I know that by the time the battery gets low on this thing, I've normally managed to lose the charger throuhg underuse! Though, of course I'm not a very heavy user. As an example, I had no problems lasting a weekend without a charger, including an hour's calling on the journey out and back plus numerous text messages.
Call waiting, enquiry calls and conference calls of up to 5 people are all possible, depending on your network and account privileges. The 3510 handles these well, clearly showing on screen which call is active, who's waiting, etc.
The in-built phone book is fairly massive, promising to find space for up to 500 contacts. You can also assign multiple number to a name, which is always useful. On selecting a name in the phonebook, you can either press the green "pickup" button to call the default number for that entry, or press another button to show a list of all that person's numbers, with a little icon by each to distinguish between home, work, mobile and so on. You can also store e-mail addresses and notes under each name, and assign a specific ringing tone to contacts if you wish. If you receive a text message from another person telling you their phone number, there's a simple option which transfers it directly into your phonebook without having to retype, or you can add the number to an existing name, which the 6210 couldn't quite handle.
Ring tones are the distinguishing feature of this phone, and are promoted quite heavily. Most are polyphonic and quite pleasant and plinky-plonky. There are 35 in total, and you can download (though not create) more from all the usual places. They can be hard to hear sometimes, so think carefully if you spend a lot of time in noisy places or like to bury your phone deep in your bag. One good thing which I've been waiting for from Nokia is the ability to change the incoming message tone. Most Nokias only let you have the double beep or two other annoying variations. The 3510 lets you use truncated versions of the ringing tones as well so you won't be reaching for your phone when anybody else around you gets a text.
Your tone settings can be saved as up to 6 different "profiles" for ease of use. The standard profiles such as Loud and Silent are straightforward enough, but you could easily set up any combination you wanted. Perhaps you might want to only have your phone make a noise about calls at night and ignore random text messages - this is easily done, as is any other combination. It is also possible to time profiles to turn off at a certain time, but sadly there is no option to set profiles to switch on and off regularly. A bit disappointing really, as it would be useful to have the phone turn itself into quiet mode at work, or silent at night for example.
Message writing is straightforward and unremarkable. Either use the traditional "lots of tapping" method or switch on the dictionary for predictive text to reduce keystrokes by letting the phone guess what you're typing. (Doesn't cope well with a lot of place names or rude words but you can add words to the dictionary so that's OK). If you're feeling wordy, you can overflow your 160 characters and the phone will split it up then send it, charging you for each chunk. If somebody else does the same to you, it's supposed to try and reassemble incoming chunks into one message too.
The phone memory can hold up to 150 messages, which you can sort into different folders, should you wish.
WAP on this phone is as good as I think it'll ever get. Nothing exciting, but works fairly well and is quite quick. If you're on Orange, they've started a "Where I Am Now" service. You can ask for your nearest cash machine / hairdresser / station / whatever and rather than enter your location, the phone works out where you are for you. Cool, but a bit scary! I was on a train the other week, and tried to call up the departure boards at our next stop to see if we were late. Went through the menus, clicked "Where I Am Now" and the phone showed my nearest station as Kemble. 15 seconds later, we whizzed thorugh Kemble station. Very clever. But that's an Orange thing, not a 3510 thing so I digress...
Standard useful Nokia functions are included, such as a good register of incoming and outgoing calls and a record of last call duration. You also get an alarm clock, a calculator and a stopwatch.
The organiser is handy for reminding you of forthcoming appointments, birthdays and so on though it won't give you the option of warning you about an entry in your diary say, 15 minutes ahead. You need to set it for the time you want to be reminded at, unlike the 6210 which worked slightly differently.
Finally, games are quite good. Annoyingly, snake and pairs are absent, but you do get a strange dancing game, go-kart racing, pinball, a space invaders type thing and a Connect 4 type thing.
All in all, this is an excellent phone. It has just about all the features you'll need for everyday use and then some. If you can cope with the ringtones, then give it try!

...shop staff i chose the nokia 3510.
The first thing that caught my attention about this phone was it's funky new look. It had a unique shape with a black cover and silver buttons. The buttons are made from rubber and give resistance when you press them so you can tell if you've pressed them properly or not. ...did after I saw the Nokia 3510.
One of the first things that attracted me to this was it's large phonebook memory which allows you to store up to 500 names and numbers. This is sufficiently more than my previous memory of just 99 spaces. You also have the option of copying the SIM card memory and storing the phonebook on the handset itself.

This handset also comes with polyphonic ringtones. This means that instead of just one sound playing at a time, you have more than one playing so the sound qulaity is improved. It even makes the terrible "Nokia" ringtone sound quite good!
This phone also comes with the WAP facility, allowing you to access the internet to look ...

Here is an indepth review of this handset.
SIZE AND BUILD
Nokia have hit on a novel idea this time to reshape their keys to a rather strange, almost "fin Shaped" design. Well whatever you want to call them, they work 100% better than the keys upon a 3310 or even a 3330 which I struggled to compose SMS's upon. Overall the phone is of an excellent build and is better than some of the earlier offerings that were released to us.
FEATURES
Well, basically all I can say is 'wow'. Say bye-bye to the boring monotonus ringtones that have plagued our society since they were first introduced, theres a new daddy on the block now which is POLYPHONIC TONES. What this actually ...

Advantages: Inexpensive phone, color screen, good keypad, sturdy phone, nokia tech support Disadvantages: Big size, only 4096 colors, limited download space, small memory
Hey I am writing a review after a long long time.
I currently have a Nokia 3530 which is a much better model than the 3510i and also much better looking! To tell you the truth do not buy any of these phones as they are way too big for comfort and have limtied features. Actually its not one of the best phones but for one who is looking for an inexpensive color phone which has moderate features then this is for you! If you are looking for a little more features but with a heavier price tag then go in for a Sony Erricson T610/T68i which have more features and better screen with integrated camers to captures those intimate moments forever!
It is believed that only Nokia phones are the best and therefore other companies that are offering better phones than Nokia's but at cheaper rates simply doesn't go to a consumers head ...

The playful Nokia 3510 grabs the attention in any situation. It is your connector, your entertainer, your new best friend. Like a chameleon, you can change the way it looks and sounds to suit the way you feel with new polyphonic (MIDI) ringing tones and various fun and functional Xpress-on covers. Snap on the one-of-a-kind gaming cover and take your senses on a roller coaster ride of polyphonic background sound and vibra effects with five in-phone games. Receive multimedia messages containing text, MIDI audio files, and graphics or animations that are as lively and expressive as you are. Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) is the next step in the evolution of messaging, enhancing the existing text messaging service by adding graphics and sounds.
