LOOKS
¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬
I like to start off with how the product looks, and with the 3510i, I can’t help thinking: not great. Nokia made the bizarre choice of giving the phone an orange on/off button, and orange sides. The buttons are cruel looking as they all seem to point towards the centre of the phone. The shape itself is similar to the 3410, however is, oddly enough for a newer phone, larger (at 118 x 49.6 x 17.1 mm). The huge screen seems to come too far down the phone’s front, and the phone looks altogether, ugly.

By now you are probably thinking that I hate this phone, after all I have not adopted the loving tone associated with some of my other ops. Well, you would be wrong. You see, this phone’s looks are specifically designed for a purpose. The orange sides light up and flash when you are being phoned, the buttons are nice and big meaning they are fat-finger-friendly (no mistyped numbers), and the screen is nice and large, easy to see for the long sighted among us. Nokia have tried to make something a bit modern, thus the orange.

FEATURES
¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬
Of course, this phone’s main feature is that it is in glorious technicolour. It boasts a fully illuminated, high-resolution, 4096 colors screen. Meaning more to play around with: you can have colour backgrounds, send and receive colour images by multimedia messaging, and all in all, brighten up your phone.

Also with this phone you can say goodbye to that torturous “Trigger happy TV” Nokia ringtone, and have the same, equally annoying tune in polyphonics! This means that the ring tones sound like “real music”, as they can combine many different instruments instead of having only one beep playing at a time. This is still very much a novelty for me, however I have stuck to the tastefully classical “Nocturne” tune. In my opinion the tones are quite harsh sounding, and do not have the quality of the Panasonic GD67, which means that although they are not that pleasing on the ear, you will always know when you are being called. If none of the preset tones are to your liking, why not become Mozart for the day and compose one, with the composer technology? Polyphonics are used with the ringtone, the text message tones, and also in the games, speaking of which…

The 3510i comes with three, good quality, colour games. These are Backgammon, Racket (or tennis) and Skydiver, which is my fave. In it you have to fall to the ground, trying to pass through as many hoops as possible. The games are good fun, and if you get bored of them, there is always the option of downloading new ones…

With the new, “Java technology” games and also ringtones can be downloaded through the WAP function which is wonderful. Though you do have to be a member of club Nokia to do this, which is very simple, just visit www.club.nokia.com/. Other than for this, I have not found WAP (wireless application protocol!) that useful. It gives you information about services and news whilst on the move, however of course comes at a cost. I found it very easy to set up, and equally as easy to use.

Text messaging is a vitally important part of any mobile, and the 3510I does not let us down. With this phone you can squeeze in 761 characters into each message which reduces the need to hve 2 rite lik ths.
Predictive text is, as with all Nokias, very easy to use, and it has the added capability of working in ten different European languages: incroyable! You can also send and receive images, sounds and save them as tones or backgrounds.

Typing in a telephone number to call people is SOOO yesterday, as proved by the 3510i. Instead you have to look like a bit of a fool shouting HOME! At your mobile. Alternatively, there are 9 one key calling numbers.

As with all new phones, the 3510I has a wealth of little features that will keep you playing around for ages. These include a calendar for busy people with busy lives; a stopwatch; a calculator; currency converter; countdown timer; an alarm clock, and finally a mysterious “wallet” which scares me because it always asks me to “insert wallet code”, so I’m afraid I can’t tell you what it does!

PRICE
¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬
Well, that’s it for the features, and it is time to look at the all important price. This is a budget colour screen phone, and carries a price tag of £150 for sim-free, which for its capabilities is quite impressive. If you want to go for a contract phone, then it will usually cost you no extra for the mobile itself. You can get the 3510i from pretty much any phone shop, and on any network.

OTHER THINGS
¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬

The battery time, for a colour phone is very impressive. Usually you have to sacrifice this, for the luxury of using colour, however with the 3510I it will last for 13 days standby of about 4 hours talktime. When not in use, to save battery, there is clock which is shown in non-colour.

This is a dual band operation phone, meaning it can be used in Europe, Africa and Asia and it also has automatic switching between bands. To be honest, I can not comment on this, because I don’t really have a clue what it means. Though it sounds pretty impressive.

This mobile is incredibly robust, solid as a brick whilst not being as big as one. Having dropped mine a number of times, I can conclude that if you buy this phone, it will lead a long and happy life. Being a Nokia, naturally it is very reliable.

AT THE END OF THE DAY…
¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬

This is a quality phone. Nokia has once again made a phone which matches its reputation. And though my little cousin could have designed a better looking mobile, it is a reliable, feature packed, great value little toy.
