The Nokia 5140i fits the bill as far as this goes. Being Nokia's sport model, it features a harder shell casing than most, making it one of the most durable phones around and quite possibly the most shock resistant. Having upgraded again I found myself with another new Nokia, a brand I've stuck with over the years because I've always found their phones user friendly, reliable, and with good features. The phones I have are rarely on the cutting edge of phone technology, but then that's not really what I'm after - more something solid than exciting.
The Nokia 5140i fits the bill as far as this goes. Being Nokia's sport model, it features a harder shell casing than most, making it one of the most durable phones around and quite possibly the most shock resistant. (Of course it still won't tale having a run a car over it… not that I've tested this!) It features several options designed for sports, such as a stopwatch, compass (which doesn't seem to work too brilliantly but that may be down to me not managing to set it up properly), countdown timer, thermometer (very useful for proving that your workplace is by law too hot / cold for you to work in!!), and an audio message recorder. (Okay so I'm not quite sure why the last one is classed as a "sports" feature, but it is!)
The screen display is somewhat disappointing - though the colour palette is 65K colours, it's still the same 128x128 screen which doesn't give much detail. The menu graphics are quite attractive and clear. The camera is a 4.0mm VGA 640x480 resolution jobbie, not great but bad. On the plus side you can record image sequences and video on it as well. Slightly compounding this is the fact that the phone doesn't have a tremendous amount of memory (only 3.5Mb). On the plus side the memory access does seem a little faster than on previous models.
Traditional text and multimedia messages are here, also you have the ability to send Flash messages which may interest some (though not me, I'm afraid). Instant messaging and emailing is fully supported. A new option is the "push to talk" feature - effectively this turns your phone into a walkie-talkie connected to one or more phones (which obviously must the "Push To Talk" feature enabled). No-one else that I know has this phone so I haven't managed to check this feature out. Reception, an all-important aspect of any phone, seems to be a lot better than my previous Nokia phones. Battery life not that great if you use the radio / camera / games a lot, but for nominal usage should last you a week.
One of the things Nokia is famous for is user-friendliness. With a couple of extra buttons to press on top of the normal (there is now a select button in the middle of 4 cursor keys, and two small buttons above of these), the menu system has very slightly expanded functionality to cater for a few new options. Unfortunately this mainly means that getting anything done is now more long-winded, the additional features are not greatly noticeable whereas the extra keypresses to get anything done are.
In addition to the above there are the features that we've come to expect from Nokia phones - a decent-quality radio (which on this model can be used as a radio alarm), a couple of games (a bit more imaginative than previous models had), calendar with reminder options, calculator, web access, call register, different themes, wallpapers, and ringtones, and a torch. In keeping with the sporty theme there is also a Fitness Coach program on the phone so you can keep track of your sets / weights over time, check how your weight loss programme is doing, etc. The phone is quite stylish but looks a little old-fashioned nowadays, and some may find it a little on the large size compared to other models. (It's not a brick or anything, just not what you'd call slim!)
Accessories
There is a strange combination of whistle and magnifying glass as the sports accessory… very odd and not particularly useful to most of us, it has to be admitted. The headphones that come with the phone area really nice quality though, and are they type that hook round your ear supporting the earpiece just away from the eardrum, infinitely better than having things stuck right in your ear. You can attach a wrist-strap, but I found that this made the phone too bulky to comfortably fit in a shirt pocket.
Conclusion
Overall the Nokia 5140i is quite a nice phone, with a few good features and solid design. For me reliability and ease of use is paramount, but despite the "Push to Talk" and Flash messages, techno-junkies will be disappointed. As with a lot of Nokia phones, the lacklustre screen display and small memory is disappointing.
A good buy (or good free upgrade) for those who want a solid performer, but it's not for you if you want something cutting edge, this isn't for you.
Price
Not sure but you should be able to get it for about £50 or less nowadays I guess.

The above is the origianl review I wrote for this phone on another site. I gave it 4 stars, but have changed it to 3 stars for Ciao. This is mainly because the operating system has locked on me a few times now, which considering the phone's reliability is it's major feature, is not a good thing! Also the replay quality of the video is awful, which makes a potentially nice feature rather useless. Still recommended due to its durability but you should know by now if it isn't for you!!
Advantages: small and simple Disadvantages: where do i start
...player and FREE mobile... The Nokia 5140i was the phone I received with it and while it was advertised really well it doesn't live up to standards.
It sounded like a great little phone, camera, video, sms, mms, and additional sporty features such as a compass, heart monitor, personal trainer, stopwatch and the like. It sounded amazing. Until I got the damn thing.
Let's see where I begin with the problems ive encountered. Let's start with the fact ... ...additional equipment. I felt ripped off, not necessarily the phones fault per say but it did put me on a downer; so anybody bought into all the luxuries of this phone just bear in mind you don't actually get them unless you're willing to falk out for them. The ones that are accessible without additions are pointless to be honest. The fitness instructor is only any good if you enjoy something stating the obvious... you put in your stats and how long ...

Advantages: Erm... the compass is pretty novel Disadvantages: Difficult to use, the only features it has are pointless, manly
...switched off. Beautiful.
This Nokia then, is just embarassingly manly. If you are, in fact, a man, then I suppose you might like the chunky blueness of it. It's covered in this weird rubber, which makes it water resistant and very durable but hardly nice looking no matter what your tastes are.
For some reason the display is very 80s, and not even the cool side of 80s. Think Saved By The Bell opening credits and you've got the kind of decoration ... ...is my first and last Nokia phone. The buttons are hard to press. It's difficult to send text messages because the buttons are tiny and you have to press them quite hard to get them to react, and then you'll often get two buttons at once. The * and # buttons seem to be in slightly the wrong place so you have to press them in a certain way.
The most stupid part about these buttons is that if you look at the phone horizontally from the side, you'll ...

Advantages: Very robust, doesn't scratch easily, good torch Disadvantages: No bluetooth, small screen difficult to read in bright light, lack of memory
I got this phone about 15 months ago, and it has been very useful and reliable. When I first got it, the keys seemed to require a lot of pressure to activate them, but it seems that this is less of a problem now. Whether it is that the phone has changed, or I have just become used to it, I'm not sure... Also, I found that it was very hard to take off the case to access the battery and sim card, but again, this has become easier over time.
This phone ... ...been dropped on several occassions, but still functions fine. The case is cracked in a few places, but this is not really noticable because it is black. There is also a fairly bright LED at the top of it, which acts as a torch, and this has come in useful on several occassions, though it is only effective up to about 30cm away. There are rumours that these phones are waterproof, but I haven't had the confidence to test this - I would have thought ...

I chose to get this phone as a free upgrade, and was really looking forward to a phone that did all sorts of useful things for when I went running. However...
When I got it I was a tad disappointed. Mostly because I couldn't open the back to get the battery and sim card in. It took 2 of us about half an hour - this phone is defintely robust!
The layout of the keyboard is not the best but you get used to having to push the 0 key harder than the ... ...would be easy with bigger fingers than me. The most annoying thing so far is that if you forget to lock the keypad, and you keep accidentally pressing the menu button, you end up sending the first picture in your images folder to the last person you sent a text to. I have accidentally sent about 70 multimedia messages which did not amuse me at all. I have now moved all my pictures to a new folder to avoid ever doing this again but you shouldn't have ...

Advantages: Very durable, interesting extras Disadvantages: Buttons too small and hard to press, limited memory plus more
Ok so you are interested in this phone so I'd better fill you in. I only got this a free upgrade and i can see why.
Like it has been said before, this phone is extremely robust. If you have a tendency to drop things or accidentally let them fall into a cup of tea (wont be doing that again!), then this is definitely a safe bet. It is a nokia, so if you are familiar with the general layout, no great surprises here. If you're not, then i find it is ... ...That's about where the good points end.
After owning 5 different Nokias before this one, I've found this the least satisfying and I'd just like to highlight the various problems I've found with this model:
1- The buttons are crowded at the bottom of the phone and for some reason the 0 needs to be pressed about 10 times harder than the other keys, very irritating since it is the space key in a text message
2 - The memory is appalling, you can only ...

Advantages: Loads of features, good camera, good sound. Disadvantages: Too many features, design and number of features rather than usability
the designers at Nokia had a great day, when they made this design. The phone looks outlandish and like nothing else, but however this also means that the keys are hard to use, without looking at them.
Embarrasing as it is, I had to consult the manual to find the keys for starting and ending the calls - so much for design, but so little for usability.
With this phone Nokia has leaped ahead from the former Nokia5140i. The software is broader, the storage is better, the implementation of Bluetooth is great.
But the fact that the phone is less of a phone and more of a handheld device annoys me.
For example turning on the phone will take up to a whole minute, menues are in so many levels, that you really have to use the phone a lot to get a hold on which feature is found in which menu.
Of course this can be combatted by defining your own ...
Advantages: Slim, fast, cheap, very durble. Disadvantages: Design
I use this model for about a half of year. I don't want to talk here about this phones specifications, just about its durability. Nokia 2630 is my second cell phone, that I use in work. I'm working a woodcuter. It's hard work, but this phone is ideal for such condotions. Phone was in the water, in the snow, in the mud, in the sawdust. And no problems! It didn't stop work never. Phone isn't very goodlooking, but it stands good in the hand, is slim and with cofortable plastic buttons.
FM radio is working very good, too. Headphones of good quality and helps to protect my ears from chainsaw noise.
So, I just wanted to say, that Nokia 2630 is very good cheap phone. Before I used model 5140, but this is better. ...

Advantages: dirt, water and shock resistant Disadvantages: not as many features as other phones brought out by Nokia
I think in terms of being dirt proof and water resistant this phone is very good for those who work outdoors. I am not really that interested in the sport feature but the pedometer seems accurate.
In terms of functionality, features and ease of use it's predecessor the Nokia5140 was better. The compass feature is gone, I can't delete several old text messages in one go, the radio is a subscription service and the calendar is not as functional as in earlier models. You can buy a GPS add on for it.
However, the camera is better, you can play several mp3s and it has blue tooth unlike the 5140. Overall I do think that this phone is an improvement but I think they got rid of a few good features as well ...
