My first good phone- any phone I had before was a cast off from a family member but this one was my own and I love it. The last few phones I have had have gone missing, fell down the toilet (woops,) sort of took a spin in the washing machine or generally stopped working. I intend to look after this one.
Man, how have phones progressed since the big old bricks that used to break your arms after holding longer than a minute? The nokia 5210 has got to be one of the best mobile’s invented just before the recent launch of the camera phone which is not a feature of the 5210. Unlike most of my mates I am actually quite aware of the risks of cancer and radiation from mobiles. Brain cells die rapidly from time spent talking on mobiles, scary eh?
A down side of this phone is that it is a nightmare to switch on. There is a tiny button located at the top right end of the phone. It requires a fingertip nail to hold it is for a good 2 seconds until it decides to co-operate. Once it is on, things get easier.
I purchased the Nokia 5210 from Carphone warehouse on contract for a year at least, £20.00 monthly plus call charges. (No free minutes or texts.) Nokia is a reputable company and I had previously heard good reports on this phone. It comes packaged in a box with charger, manual, hands-free kit and a blue X-press on shell. Fully charged which gave me 3 hours talk time/ approx. 100 hours on standby mode. It appeared different than other phones; it has a vertical intact 2 ways scrolling button, with blue up and down arrows, enabling the user to scroll through options and names in the phone book. There was also 2 separate buttons, which allowed the user to end and make calls, a red and green phone icon respectively. The screen displayed the operator logo and on the right a ‘Names’ and ‘Menu’ option, which could be accessed using two dashed buttons located under these options on the keypad. It was useful to access the phone book directly instead of searching for a name via the phone book.
The phones specifications: - Messages were the first section of the phones menu. I could write messages, view my inbox and outbox, send picture messages (pre formatted, not sourced from a camera,) use smiles and templates. A great combination of options. Writing messages are incredibly simple to do, the phone had pre-programmed dictionaries in many languages which were all in predictive text if the user wanted. And each message had a maximum of 450 characters, a lengthy number by anyone’s standard.
Then there is a call register function next in line. It contains functions that allow you to view missed calls, received calls, numbers dialled. You will find yourself using these more than you imagined. If your phone cannot be reached in time for a call or you are in an area of no signal this will record the callers number and time of call on whatever date.
Settings is a useful menu, tones can be adjusted. Here you can compose your own ring tones using composer. This saves money as they can be got for free on websites; try searching ‘Nokia key press ring tones’. Or enable vibrate option or use any of the phones many ring tones. Personally I prefer toreador. It never gets old. Ring tones can also have a rhythmic light background in time to their beat. Pretty funky.
Call divert is an option. If you want to bar people from calling you, if you are busy or want your head showered from calls, you can divert all calls to voicemail or even another number.
There are a few decent games to keep you occupied while bored at home, on the bus or whatever. They come in handy although murder the battery rapidly. They include snake 2, pairs 2, space impact, bantumi and bumper.
Other features on the phone are the calendar, which allows you to add notes and reminders, there’s a calculator, currency converter, picture editor, although patience is needed. Or you can take a inaccurate reading of the temperature with the thermometer, it is never right for example one cold winters morning the forecast read -1, my wonderful phone said 15c. Countdown timer and stopwatch are useful for a bit of fun like in my case timing sprints with my mates or whatever floats your boat.
There is a really good infrared device, allowing you to send things like phone numbers and ring tones to other infrared enabled phones. Simply hold the infrared part of the phone in line with another phone to receive the number. This is a free option and in my opinion far better than forking out 12p or 15p. This phone also has the Internet but costs an absolute fortune, you could download games or ring tones, and it has to be set up by selecting country of residence, number and so on via the wap. Also a costly operation. The phone has got a huge memory for numbers and you’ll never use them all, 450 to be precise 200 on the sim card and 250 to the phones hardware memory.
Overall the Nokia 5210 is really durable and waterproof with many great features. I advice anyone thinking of purchasing it to opt for the blue cover as the orange and the rest of my tried colours get sickening and give the urge to be changed. It is really reliable and so should be the one for you.
Thanks ever so much for reading. I hope to pay back the favour.
Advantages: Shock resistant, water resistant and compact. Disadvantages: Difficult to switch on and a tiny keypad.
The Nokia 5210 is the latest addition to my list of phones, which is getting increasingly longer by the year. This last couple of years I don’t seem to be having any luck with my phones.
Several of my previous phones have been dropped down the stairs and smashed, never to work again, dropped in the toilet at the pub due to being plain drunk and stupid and my last phone, a Nokia 3310, kindly had a glass of red wine knocked over it by my friends child ... ...of the shop with a Nokia 5210.
My main reason for choosing the Nokia 5210 and not a Samsung was solely down to the fact that the casing could be changed and with a past history of dropping phones and cracking the cases I needed one which I could simply take off, chuck away and replace without having to spend a hundred pounds on a new phone every time I dropped it. When I saw the Nokia 5210 with the description underneath of being shock resistant ...

Advantages: Easy to use, orange backlight, reliable Disadvantages: My case broke after a few days!
The Nokia 5210 is the so-called indestructible phone. It is shockproof, splash proof and literally bounces when you drop it… and mine broke. It wasn’t the phone fone that broke, just the case over the screen. I didn’t drop it or anything, I just got it out of my pocket and there was a hideously large crack in it! It was an official Nokia cover too, not a cheapo one, and a replacement costs £22. There is a call button used solely for calling and an end call button also used as a cancel button, and the left menu button is also used to select menu things. The phone is also quite light but not too light so you think your phone is actually in your pocket when really you left it in the car, for me this is the perfect weight of a phone. The ...

...time to send my old Nokia 3210 packing as it was getting rather old. Having waited for over 6 months to be told I was entitled to an update I decided to take the law into my own hands. The battery lasts for about 150 hours off one charge of around 1-2 hours (try not to charge the phone regularly as this can damage the batteries life expectancy), and gives about 3 hours of talktime so you have quite a bit of talktime before the battery goes dead.

...my own assessment on the Nokia 5210.
Aesthetically, I like it a lot. Its chunky image means people aren’t going to look at you and think your phone represents the size of your genitals, breasts, ego, etc., but on the other hand, it’s not so big as to look like it’s compensating for genitals, breasts, small gardens and such like. It’s a fairly small, non-flip phone, but what makes it look good is its rubberised shell. As well as looking good, it ... ...it’s not a dark blue, Nokia call it ‘wave blue’. You can get Xpress-on covers for the phone available in the following naffly-named colours: Thirsty blue (light pastel blue), weathered green (dullish dark green), flushed yellow (yellow) and the acceptably named burnt orange. These are the official ones, so I’ve not mentioned the inevitable plethora of ill-fitting tacky unofficial ones that street markets are often awash with, they’re all overpriced ...

Advantages: grips the phone firmly on the dash Disadvantages: Instruction manual can be slightly confusing but just requires some common sense
i purchased this product after seeing it here on ciao.co.uk. I perchased it because i only had a cheapo holder for my nokia 6230i in my car and it was very annoying when the phone kept poping out of the holder and rolling around the floor of the car, come on it's happened to all of us. How annoying is it?!
After i received this, it was all self explanitory pretty much, only needing to glance at the instructions to see how the thing clipped onto the car air vents but after that, it was all plain sailing. I can not securely clip my phone to the adjustable holder and it fits in there nice and snug, and it's SOLID! Even when driving down bumpy country lanes, this neat little holder keeps my phone there on the dash solid as a rock, not even the slightest movement!
I am extremely happy with this and i would deffinately recommend it to ...
Advantages: Small, lots of features, long battery Disadvantages: menus are a bit unweildy to navigate
later I realised that I was now the laughing stock of my friends and decided to upgrade - which I did to the Nokia5210 - again mainly on looks (it had a cute sliding panel to cover the keypad) but also because my then boyfriend had the same phone and it meant I could use his hands free car kit.
Then last month I decided the time had come to upgrade again, the power button on my 5210 had fallen off which meant you had to use a biro to turn it on and off and it was looking a little tatty round the edges.
A visit to my local phone shop revealed that the cheapest upgrade I could get was the 3310, I persuaded my fiance that he should switch to Orange so we can call each other cheaply and he went for the 3310 as well (it's free for new contracts!)
The phone's great, it's small, it has loads of room for storing numbers, voice recognition ...

Advantages: Can store up to 100 tunes Disadvantages: Still feels like a brick, poor quality camera, slow transfer of music
So...After letting go of my orange screen Nokia5210, I upgraded to the Motorola E1 ROKR. This was purely because I needed an MP3 player andI couldn't afford an ipod. This was the next best thing to have.
~ Combination of a PHONE and MUSIC
The phone isnt like the mobile phone where you have to put songs in the ringtones section and you can only play them out loud; you can listen to your favourite song with headphones (or on loudspeaker), whilst sending a text message. By having your contacts alongside you music, it is easier to multitask.
~ Interaction
The iTunes phone is complete with an easy scroll navigator which allows you to flick through the menu, and the music art can be displayed. Songs can be shuffled and put on repeat. It is very easy to connect to your PC and transfer music to the phone. ...
