This phone is great if your you are always dropping your phone like me. I have dropped this one quite a few times with no ill effects whereas previous phones i have had have just smashed on contact with the ground, I put this down to it having a robust body and being very sterile built. The phone is also dust resistant and has a sealed case which is good because nothing cab get into the phone but it leave no room for personalization because the case of the phone can't be changed .Nokia mainly aimed the phone at the building trade but its a good phone for anyone.
The Nokia 5500 is packed with features that you would expect in the very high end phones. It is bluetooth 2.0 compliant , a feature i use regularly, and it supports all the usual features that most mobile phones have nowadays such as GPRS and a camera(see specs for full feature list).
The phones camera is very useful and produces quite good quality images. The only problem is at night the images aren't always great as the 5500 has no flash.
The lifetime of the battery on standby is about a week and a half but if you use the phone regularly you can only expect about 4-5 days and oif you use the bluetooth a lot the considerably less.
The reception on the phone is quite good and better than some phones i have had in the past, but it isn't as good as the old Nokia 3220 i used to have.
The internet browser is good and displays most web pages fine, if a little slowly. The only problem with the internet browser is you have to specify exit in the menus to leave it not just press the red button to get back to the main screen otherwise it leaves the browser connected and drains the battery faster than usual and the only indication of this is a small icon in the top corner that is very similar to the icon displayed when the phone is not connected to the net.
Just a final note if you are going to use the phone as an mp3 player and for taking photos it is worth buying an expansion memory card for it as the 64mb of internal memory is not that large and can't really fit much in it.
Overall i really like this phone and would recommend it to anyone who was thinking of purchasing one.
