Full review
I had this phone for about a month now, currently its a great buy for Under £150 in most places and can be bought for around £130. Before I even start reviewing the phone, I will have to warn buyers that this phone is locked on most networks in the UK and uses a new network lock (so called BB5). Unlocking remotely via codes is not possible unlike in older nokia's (6230 and 6230i being its predecessor).

The only way to unlock at the moment is to contact the network to lift the restriction and this will usually set you back around £15. So please choose the phone on the network of your choice.

So lets start with the package:
  • You get the phone (obviously)
  • Nokia headset, newer black one with better sound, volume control and an easier to press answer button
  • Nokia BP-6M battery different from older nokia's
  • Nokia Charger ( Note this phone uses a smaller jack for the charger than older nokia such as 6230) This sadly means the In car charger is useless you buy the nokia CA-44 charging adaptor for around £4 so, no big disadvantage there
  • No USB cable!! Dont worry you can buy a generic dku-2 cable for £6.60
  • 64 mb memory card, the phone has very little memory and depends on the memory card for store, 64 mb is clearly not enough so I recommend a 1 GB Micro-SD for an upgraded storage of music and videos and other applications|
  • Nokia PC suite CD, this may not the the latest version so better to check the nokia website to download latest version.

The phone itself is the candy bar, no flair but sleek looking nokia that looks conservative and doesn't shout look at me, I'm wild! The buttons are spaced out clearly and feels very confortable to touch and press and gives good feedback. Nokia should be given credit for using such no-nonsense buttons.

Turning on the phone : You can turn on the phone without using the Sim card and still use all non sim card activities such as taking pictures and playing music ( may be useful when on the plane). There is also a seperate flight mode profile which prevents all radio frequencies from transmitting including radio and bluetooth.

Camera and Video: The phone has an generic 2 megapixel camera that takes average quality pictures (due to lack of autofocus) that is worse than that of the Sony Ericsson k750i. However, reasonable pictures can be taken outdoors with night mode on and subject being more than 80 cm from the lens ( no macro pictures possible). there is no flash which may annoy some users. The video recording facility should be praised, supporting up to VGA resolution that is worth watching on the PC. Recording at such high resolution will use up the standard 64 mb memory card quickly! Encoding videos to play on the 6233 is easy and I recommend "Super" Video converter for that, full screen mode is possible and video looks nice and clear.

HOWEVER, the phone does not have fast forward/rewind functionality when playing videos and this is probably the biggest disadvantage in this phone, nokia simply forgot! Although a disadvantage, a normal user could simply split big videos to smaller sections.

Music and radio

Music player is basic but enough for most users, you can create playlists by connection phone to computer via bluetooth or dku-2 cable and using the nokia music manager in the PC suite. There are options to specify music source, 5 pre-built equaliser setting as well as 2 customisable ones . the headphones sound decent, but not amazing, Stereo loud Speakers enhance the depth and loudness of the music and sounds amazing without the distortions experienced in other phones. you can use your mp3 as a ringtone and it sounds good! loudspeaker volume is high and definately louder than k750i and nokia 6230/6230i. Radio is standard and because of stereo speakers, sounds good when playing.

Calls and related functions : The in phone phonebook allows for only 500 contacts and this may be a limitation for some business users, however as you can add home phone number, mobile and email adresses to one contact so its not too bad. Call quality is clear and person on other side can hear very clearly as well. You can record calls however a beep is heard every few seconds when in the call and this can be heard by the person on the other side, but this beep is not heard in the recorded file.

Applications: there are many applications for this phone and a large variety of games aswell ( I have 150 ) and these can be stored in the memory card. Wireless presenter is found in the phone and can be used to control presentations via bluetooth for example ( you need nokia wireless presenter on the PC).

Well there you go guys! I tried being as informative as I could and enjoyed writing this big essay! Hope you find it useful!
