Ok, firstly I admit I am a dedicated Nokia fan. But that doesn't cloud my judgement - at Christmas I tried the Nokia N73, but found this a bit too big and bulky and found some of the keys a bit uncomfortable to use. My previous models have been the 6230 & 6230i. I tried out a Samsung E900 last month, but couldn't adapt to that and vowed to stick to my faithful Nokia's...
So...I have been waiting for weeks to get my hands on the Nokia 6300. Finally receiving it as a free upgrade from Orange last week, I am not disappointed. Even on a £25 a month tariff, this phone was free, which isn't the case with all networks. If you're considering Orange, it's worth checking out their online tariffs as these tend to be better than instore or on the phone...
The Nokia 6300 looks fantastic.
Most of the casing is stainless steel and there is a good sized screen, which is nice and bright. The buttons are easy to use, but I guess they could be a bit small if you have big fingers! I send a lot of texts and have had no problems with them. It feels durable and strong, and being stainless steel, hopefully will be ok if dropped! I'm going to get a screen protector for mine as the screen is quite big and I'll be gutted if I scratch it. My tip is to use an iPod sock to protect it when it's in your bag or pocket!
The menu is very similar to previous Nokia's, and is very easy to look through to find what you want - everything seems to be in the usual place, so no surprises there. It's easy to set it up the way you want it with various shortcut options and extra menus available on the main screen.
The phone has an internal memory of 7.8MB, which may not be great, but mine came with a 128MB Micro SD memory card, so I am storing all my photos, ringtones and mp3 files on there.
The camera is 2 megapixels, which I personally find is fine for a camera phone - I only tend to use it for pictures of friends etc when we're out and I never take them off the phone anyway. That said, the quality of the photos does seem to be of a better quality than other 2mp phones I've used. There's also the option of using different effects on your pictures such as black & white and sepia. It does have a digital zoom too which works quite well for close ups. There's also a video camera option where you can record up to about 1hr 45mins of footage.
The music player sounds good, although I did have problems to start with as it said there wasn't enough memory on the phone to use it. So I moved my music files onto the memory card & it works fine now. I guess if you wanted to use it all the time as an mp3 player, you may need to get a bigger memory card. The FM radio is also good.
It doesn't have infra-red like most of the previous Nokia phones I've had, but it does have Bluetooth with the options to hide your visibilty if you want to. There's also a flight safe mode on this phone, very handy if you travel a lot and still want to use the music player etc.
All the messaging option are pretty similar to other Nokia's and it has email capability too, although I don't use this myself.
There's all the usual Organiser options like Calendar, Alarm Clock and Timer, and you can synchronise your calendar with your PC using the Bluetooth, which is very handy so you don't have to update both. You can also connect to your PC to download music, tones etc although there is no PC cable included so you would need to buy one if your PC doesn't have Bluetooth.
I'm not too sure on the Battery life yet - I've charged it most days since I've had it, but I have been like a kid with a new toy so I've been using it quite a lot. I guess when I get more used to it and use it normally, the battery life will be a bit better - it's supposed to be up to 3.5hr talk time and about 14 days standby, so it seems pretty good.
The quality of calls has been excellent so far, I've had a better reception in some places where my 6230i wasn't so good. There's the option for voice dialling your contacts too, which is handy when you have your hands full! Guess it would be good too if you are driving.
All in all, this is a fantastic phone. It's easy to use but still looks impressive. It has all the features you could want and more, and I wouldn't change it for anything. Nokia fans will not be disappointed, and anyone trying Nokia for the first time will be impressed. My boyfriend has always used Samsung, but now he's considering upgrading to this one.
I hope my review is helpful to you all and wish you much happiness with your new choice of phone (which should definitely be the Nokia 6300!!) xxx

Very helpful review thanks. I am about to receive this phone as an upgrade and feel much better having read your opinion. I accepted the first phone they offered me and felt maybe I had been duped but am sure I will be happy with it now!

I also just receive this phone through an Orange upgrade. It's brilliant!
