With its stainless steel covers and huge colour screen the Nokia 6300 is the most advanced and easiest phone I have ever used, but then again I expected this as every Nokia I have owned over 12 years has never failed to impress me. I received my 6300 as part of an O2 upgrade free of charge.

It is much lighter than my previous phone and is only 91 grams but is much bigger at 106.4 x 43.6 x 11.7 mm because of the colour screen which which is a 2 inch 240 x 320 (TFT) which supports 16.7 million colours. The keypad seems like an afterthought and the buttons are quite small which more room beinh given to the navigation control and selection buttons which scroll through the featues and applications without any sort of time lag.

The quality of the reception is dependent on the signal strength in the area but 99% of the time the clarity and reception is perfect and rarely do I get any interferance or crackling on the line. When the signal is weak, I just increase the speaker volume and this usually makes calls faultless.

In addition to being a great little mobile phone for making calls, sending and receiving SMS/MMS message it is jam packed with other things that keep me entertained. It has a 2 megapixel camera that takes stills and video clips. Pictures on the screen are great but no substitute for a real digital camera with a higher pixel count. As well as this, there is a radio function and it can store and play MP3 files which is really good, even through the Nokia headphones. It is bluetooth enabled and has the usual Nokia features such a a phonebook, calendar and alarm clock all of which are quite useful.

The best thing, and this is one of those pointless gadgety things that make blokes like me smile is the ringtones and associated options. The 6300 supports MP3, true and polyphonic ringtones and you can attach video clips to certain numbers so that when they phone the clip starts playing. It might not be much but when my friends phone it cracks me up that they appear on the screen making funny faces. It doesn't take much to amuse me!

With a decent enough battery life, an east user interface and top quality call features I would be very happy to spend over £100 buying the 6300 but am even more pleased that I opted to get it as a free upgrade.
