I bought this phone after my old 8210 got broken and I had to claim off an insurance policy. I was wondering which phone to buy and my man said "get the 6600, its the best on the market". I looked at the phone and my first impressions were...Its a bit...erm...big. The thing is though, I was so used to such a small phone so even going up a centimetre in width (which is pretty much the only difference in size between this and an 8210) was a bit of a shock.
I got it home and my man opened it up for me and set it up. He sat on the sofa and showed me all the things it could do, and I have to say I was blown away!!
Not counting the usual phone functions which are very good....clear sound and a built in speakerphone, the screen was super clear, and the menus looked pretty...Delving deeper showed more wonderful things. For the first time I could attach pictures of friends and loved ones onto their contacts in the address book, meaning that when they called, their picture appears (albeit a bit small, but still recognisable)...I could also attach different ringtones to different people meaning that I could "hear" the different people calling before I even looked at the phone.
What else?
The menus can be arranged as a grid of icons or a list of icons and words, you use the 4 way joystick to navigate around and push the joystick in to select an item...super stuff. You can also use themes on the menus to allow you to change the look and feel of the phone, there are a few on the phone but you can also download more from websites.
Only a low resolution one but fine for taking quick pictures (I use mine to take pics of my son when he does something impromptu). You can organise pictures you have taken into folders as well to make it easy to find things.
Video recording... 9 Seconds maximum, although you can have sound if you want. The reason its 9 seconds max is because it is the maximum size that can be sent as a multimedia message. You can however get programs that allow you to record for longer, however most are without sound (some allow sound on the newer 6600's with the updated software onboard)
Voice recording... Only 60 seconds at a time, but useful when you need to remember some shopping.
Calendar and todo lists... You can syncronise your calendar and todo list with Outlook (not express though). My man uses this at work and he thinks its great.
You can also play realmedia movies, which means that you can play whole films and music videos on your phone provided of course you can fit them onto the memory card (mmc)...You only get a 32mb one supplied although it will take up to 256mb and some people have actually got 512mb ones to work. This is really cool, peoples mouths drop open when they see a phone playing an episode of the Simpsons!
Other features... A simple notepad, a file manager and some other techy stuff which most people probaby wont use.
What else can it do? Pretty much anything as its based on a very popular smartphone design called Symbian 60...My man has his playing MP3's, warping faces automatically when he takes someones picture, maps of cities that he can ask for a route from a to b, and a really snazzy program that allows his phone to work out which is the nearest cell and automatically change profiles (when he leaves the house his phone automatically switches to his outdoor profile, then when he gets into work or comes home it switches back to the general profile).
Battery life: Yep, you guessed it...not that brilliant. Under normal use which is as a phone I get about 5 or 6 days ish but once you start on the really clever stuff like MP3's and games it plummets a bit, and I only get a few days, mind you its not really a problem though because the battery charges in about an hour to full capacity.
You may have noticed that my man also has this phone....We were so impressed we bought the company...wait, that was someone else...we just bought another 6600 instead.
