After signing up with a new O2 online contract I received a Nokia 3200, but trust me to be unlucky this one was faulty with about 3 different faults. After loads of calls and emails to O2 they eventually agreed to replace it and sent me the Nokia 6600 which I have to admit is a fantastic phone.
The only problem with it is the size, its quite a large phone and the weight of it I found compared to other Nokia phones was quite heavy. But even so it does everything you could want it too, it even makes calls!
It has a menu system on it that has two options either a list style menu or a menu in a grid form which I find quicker as you can see more of the menu in one go. Apart from doing the obvious making and receiving of calls there isn’t many things it doesn’t do.
I find one of the most useful things that it has is the GPRS WAP option, I continuously check football scores, check lottery results, look up the weather even check what on TV with the WAP system. The only fortunate thing is I do get free WAP minutes with my tariff.
The phone has a built in camera which can take some great photos and has the option of different camera modes such as night mode, landscape etc. But not only does it take pictures it can also act as a mini camcorder as you can record small amounts of film about 30 seconds worth which although is not much can be great fun!
Some of the main features of the phone:
Tri-band, in other words you can use it internationally including the USA Media Messaging, so you can send on those great pictures you’ve taken Colour Screen Built in Camera Polyphonic Ring tones Upto 4 hours talk time or 240 hours standby Bluetooth Facility
I have also purchased a Bluetooth headset to go with the phone which although set me back another £50 it is well worth the investment. No more hands free kits where you are attached to the phone because the handset has a wire between it and the phone connecting it as Bluetooth is completely wireless. The Bluetooth headset works upto 10 metres between it and the phone. The only disadvantage to Bluetooth is that I find it drains your battery very very quickly. But a great advantage to it is that you can send pictures etc via Bluetooth to another compatible handset and to do so costs absolutely nothing!
One of the great things about the phone is the different messaging options that you have. You can go for the basic SMS text message, multi media messaging allowing you to send on pictures, video etc. But one great advantage is that you can also send, receive and create emails on the phone. Which as I have got an additional email address with O2 this can prove very useful if you are going away from home for a few days.
You have to option to save your contact numbers to the phone or to the SIM card, and the option to copy from one to another allowing you to keep the details on both. Which if you are like me and continuously upgrade my phone this can be ideal as you can copy all the contacts to the SIM card and use them in another handset.
The nokia 6600 can be used a small organiser I suppose. It has the facility to store notes, a to do list and also has a calendar in which you can store birthdays, meetings etc. It allows you to set alarms for the calendar so you don’t miss those important meetings.
To all someone is very simple just with the use of the joystick control you can easily access your list of contacts and as with most other mobiles the use of the red and green buttons to make and end calls. Overall the phone has a significant number of features but is very simple to use and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn’t want the basic of mobiles.
