Now, I work in a mobile phone shop and the Nokia 8800 is definitely a phone that gets noticed. It looks a lot nicer than most other phones on the market, and these days comes advertised as "From FREE" on contract. As soon as people ask about it, though, there are a few reality checks:
- The "FREE" price tag only comes with the highest tariffs, most people on a standard £30 per month price plan will pay more than £150 for the phone. Upgrades and SIM-free's will set you back up to almost £600 on the high street.
- In the (approximate) words of a Nokia rep, the phone comes with two batteries because it's an exclusive, premier handset and it's a little extra touch for the consumer. In truth, you need two batteries because the battery life is absolutely shocking. With normal voice and text usage it'll last about a day, maybe a day and a half. Activate Bluetooth and use some of the features and it's not even that. (I have had reports of it having an "okay" battery life, but this seems to be the exception rather than the norm.) To put it in perspective, if any other phone we sell displays a similar level of battery life, we usually get people in complaining about the handset.
- No, it doesn't have a megapixel camera. The display is very clear, so pictures will look good on the screen, but they're not really print quality. In fact, features-wise the 8800 is just a souped-up 6230 with a higher internal memory (but no means of expanding it).
To be fair, I know several people who are happy with the 8800, but it does have a lot of flaws for a phone with that price tag. What you're really paying for is the steel case and scratch-resistant, diamond coated screen. The sad thing is that Nokias tend to be good phones, and admittedly the reliability of the 8800 (apart from the battery life) pushes my rating of it up to 3 stars, but I was expecting better. There are a lot of better phones out there at a fraction of the cost, so unless you're totally smitten by appearances I'd personally recommend you look elsewhere.
Advantages: large range of features - good build quality - great call reception - polyphonic and MP3 tones - built in radio - excellent picture quality and graphics - battery life Disadvantages: price
I managed to destroy my Nokia 6111 and had to buy another mobile phone for personal use. I am part way through my contract so the opportunity to upgrade was not an option so it was a case of find a nice looking, cheap, reliable phone and quickly. I bought this phone from the Carphone Warehouse for £300 rationalising the price in my head by convincing myself I wouldn't buy another phone for at least 3 years and this time I would insure it against ... ...Nokia 6111, it has a slide screen that partly covers the keypad but the bottom section of the keypad is covered by a magnificent looking metallic cover that slides in the opposite direction. It looks the bees knees. The picture Ciao have is identical to the 8800 I have.
The 8800 is slightly heavier than my previous phone, but I would imagine that this is because of all of the metal Nokia have added to the body and it feels well constructed to the ...

Advantages: Looks the part and has a great TFT screen Disadvantages: Expensive and lacks anything of special interest to warrant the price tag
After keeping hold of my Nokia 8310 for well over 12 months it sadly came to the end of its life recently after a trip round the washing machine and tumble dryer and after attempting to convince my daughter she needed a new phone (she is the source of all of my mobile phones) I had to bite the bullet and actually go out and part with some hard earned money.
Choosing which phone to buy is an absolute nightmare. There are so many functions, gadgets ... ...my eye was the stylish Nokia 8800 and after I had seen the £275 price tag I decided this would be my treat and make my daughter positively green with envy.
Unlike my other Nokia phones the 8800 oozes quality with a stainless steel body with a slide mechanism to cover the keypad. The screen is scratch resistant with reinforced glass making the phone on the whole very durable and hard wearing.
The display is a TFT screen which supports 262,144 colours ...

Advantages: Sleek and stylish and very slim, with a sliding keypad cover Disadvantages: heavy, poor battery life
That's it my Nokia 6600 was on the verge of dying, I needed to use the loudspeaker when i was making a call because I could not hear a thing!! So I was due for an upgrade and I chose the Nokia 8800.
If there's one thing I've learned it's that some people will always like shiny metal objects. Whether it's a pen, a toaster, a fridge, shiny and metal are good. I have a few metals things at home may be that's why I chose that phone..
Weighing in at ... ...the Nokia 8800 is both heavy and sleek at the same time but I don't mind really , my Nokia 6600 was a bit heavy too.

:::The Nokia 8800: (revised)
The predecessor of the 7000 series nokia mobiles, again focuses on the higher price range of the mobile market, featuring a good level of functionality but also with above average build quality. The popular 7000 series mean the 8800 has a lot to live up to.
Ok, so everyone knows the 8800 has poor battery life, which is undoubtedly its main disadvantage. If you can live with this, then the 8800 and the lifestyle that ... ...600mah

Advantages: Very aesthetically pleasing Disadvantages: Poor features and easily marred case
Admittedly the Nokia 8800 is one of the best looking phones currently available. However, having used this phone, I have to say I am appalled by Nokia's effort this time; and being a very big Nokia fan this is something I have trouble saying.
The Nokia 8800's main drawback is its camera. With such a flashy appearance and a price tag to go with it, you would expect the camera to be remotely useful and of good quality. This, however, is not the case. ... ...the batteries quickly wear out. Nokia have covered for this by providing an extra battery in the box.
Overall I have to say that even though it often requires a quick wipe, the phones look is excellent. Its quality however, is pulled down by the poor features of the phone. A simple phone, but when the price is considered, this reason, I believe does not justify buying it. A great posers' phone but appalling if you want a phone to actually use. ...

Advantages: Sleek and stylish, 3G, 3 megapixel camera, music player Disadvantages: Overpriced; Volume may be a problem
The Nokia8800 Arte is perhaps the most luxurious mobile in Nokia's collection. It is made with premium materials and is definetely an luxury item.
The phone is sleek and elegant and is just overflowing with style. The phone's main theme is more to do with the aesthetics than the functions. The simple yet sophisticated design of this slide phone is sure to be appealing.
Even though Nokia does not pride this phone for its functions, it does have a music player, a 3 megapixel camera and 3G.
This phone also lives up to Nokia's reputation for user friendly mobile phones.
However, in my opinion, the above does not justify the price of this product. I find the phone overpriced for what may be called as just a stylish phone and perhaps nothing more.
* Also, I have heard from a relative that volume of the phone is relatively small, but ...
Advantages: Stylish, Real Metal Case, Easy to Use, Nice Weight, Beautiful Sheen, Stands Out!, Disadvantages: completely broke twice in 1 year
I really like this phone, it actually feels like a phone! I hate the plastic, fragile phones available at the moment, there like toy phones, whereas the 8800 sirocco edition is the creme de la creme of mobiles available. It has a nice weight to it so it doesnt feel like it will blow away in the wind and its made of real metal not the cheap metal effect plastic most phones are made in. takes good quality 2mega pixel pictures which is great for when your out and forgot your camera! The colour screen is vibrant and the phone itself gleams a piano key black. Really stands out but in a subtle way. the metal casing does get finger prints all over it but it comes with a leather chammy cloth to clean it with and it has a leather carry case to help prevent scratches.
It can be easy when typing a text to accidentally send the message to ...
Advantages: 1st class look, Stainless Steel finish, Scratch resistant glass screen, looks and feels great Disadvantages: Camera Quality (0.5 mp), Battery life is not good, No memory card, a little heavy to hold,
The best looking phone ever manufactured by Nokia, simply Stunning!!
Looking for Class? Originality? this is the right phone for you, Outer casing made from stainless steel and is laser-cut for precision!!
The cover is made to protect the phone incase of accidental damage which is soo does! No need to worry about the kids dropping it (you should!) because its built to last.
Also the screen is made from scratch resistant glass which is double protection right there.
It has got several features including bluetooth which is fast and endless possibilities of games to download, digital music player, integrated camera, 3D imaging for enhanced graphics and a great colour display
But there are downsides to the specifications of the phone.
Examples, Camera quality isn't that good (0.5 megapixel)! and the sound quality is not to ...
