I had been waiting for this time of year to come around for some time now as this is the time where people sell there un wanted gifts. I have been on the look out for a new phone for some time now and up until recently only considered buying brand new. While mooching around the auctions and in the mobile phone section I found a Nokia 8850 for £177.00 boxed without a sim card and able to use the pay as you go network.

On the value for money side of things I don’t believe that the Nokia 8850 is worth the £177.00 or not even the £250 odd retail price. You pay the extra hundred, as the style is top notch and up to very modern standards. Personally I think the Nokia 8210 is a better buy but to own one of these is much more than an advantage over the Nokia 8210 and it was only £77 more so I thought what the hec and splashed out all my precious money.

I do not regret buying the phone for such a price as it’s a cracking little phone and in my opinion and my opinion only it’s worth the money if you want 100% style. The 8850 are a very stylish handset due to its size and matt aluminium front. When buying I was wary of the flipper as it looked delicate but after handling the phone it seemed strong enough to cope with the general wear and tear which it WILL occur.

Handsets dimension: 100x44x17mm.

I was expecting quality and I got quality but for a high price. I believe that Nokia are the best at producing the best mobile phones so I thought that spending the money was not a silly as I first thought! Nokia phones can be bought second hand in as new condition from as little as £15-20!

Reliability….

As Nokia's are so good at producing mobile phones I am pretty much certain that the Nokia 8850 is going to be %100 trouble free in the time of me owning the phone. I have had many different models of Nokia handsets and am impressed with the reliability of every single one of them.

So what is good about the 8850 function wise?

The Nokia 8850 has the most up to date of features including

· Vibrate alert
· Voice dialling
· Picture messages
· 5 available composed or downloaded ringing tones
· Dual band
· 5 line display for text messages and graphics

Games.

The Nokia 8850 has not got the most latest of Nokia games but it is made for business use where I expect mobile phone games are rarely used. The games are Snake Rotation Memory and Logic.

All about the battery.

The 8850 is powered buy a lithium battery which helps keep the weight to a minimum to maximise the look and feel. The phones standby time is claimed to last from 2-3hours and talktime of 50-150 hrs.

Predictive text.

As you probably guess the 8850 is SMS compatible. To make sending text messages as hassle free Nokia have come up with a ‘predictive text feature’, which helps speed up text messages and proves to be a great feature once learned which might take some time.

Ease of use.

The Nokia 8850 is easy to use but not quite as simple as the Nokia 5110/402/5146/3210/3310/3330 which all use the ‘navi button’ feature. The instruction manual is clear and understandable but to those who have previously used Nokia’s it should not need to be used.

Little buttons not for big fingers!

As stated in many other opinions on both the 8850 and he 8210 the buttons are very small and not made for big fingers. I have average fingers and once used to the buttons find them easy to press, as they are light buttons.

Reception Quality and Call Quality.

Reception quality is not quite as good as the Nokia 3310/3330 but the reception quality of the 3310/3330 is hard to beat but still is bad seeing as the 8850 is over double the retail price. Call quality may not be as good but picking up a signal is much easier in the most difficult of areas.

Infra Red

The Nokia 8850 has Infra Red which means that you can download information from the phone directly onto the laptop. With infra Red you can even has 2 player Snake!

Clock, Calendar and calculator.

Well these are all pretty self-explanatory but the clock can be set 24hr or 12hr and the alarm clock will sound when the phone is on or off!

Ringing tones and picture icons.

As well as having 35 standard ringing tones you can also compose/download 5 of your own to add the personal touches to your handset. You also can have a screen saver, which will appear when your phone is left idling. You have a range of screen savers to choose from or you can have none at all.

For a little extra information the person that invented the Nokia 8850 is named Frank Nuovo. (Chief designer) who has very good taste!

Thanks for reading and feedback is appreciated as normal! Sam. :0)

I love my 8850 to pieces, more so than any other mobile I've ever owned. I dropped it getting out of the car about a week ago and left two serious scores on the front cover. Oh gawd but I was so depressed! lol. Good review. Thanks.

Sorry, your op was just not interesting enough to get VH. Examples? Games paragraph: no info except the games that are included but you find that in the specs as well; Battery paragraph: you only give the specs; Predicive text input paragraph: uninteresting; Infra red: how about telling your experience with infra red; Ringing tones paragraph: only specs again. There are other things but I think this is enough to explain my rating.
