Advantages: small size, chrome finish, great for image Disadvantages: buttons hard to press, breaks easy
Well here it is the Nokia 8890 I finally got round to trying one, Nokia make it sound wonderful they say works on five continents, Voice Dialling, Predictive Text, Good Sound, Infra red Link and Picture Messaging wow. But I was not so sure it would be so wow after using a Nokia 8850.
When first viewing the phone you realise the design is exactly the same as the Nokia 8850 it still has the very stylish design in chrome. The buttons are finished in ... ...M25 one day.
The Nokia 8890 like all the new Nokia’s has predictive text messaging you all must likely know what that is but for those of u who don’t it allows you to enter text messages very quickly. Once you have got used to it that is and it can take a while to get the hang of.
They have also put their new voice-dialling feature on this handset I feel this facility at the minute is very poor, as it very often does not dial the name ...

Advantages: very small and cool Disadvantages: some weak areas
The Nokia 8890 (henceforth referred to as the 8890) is built quite solidly. There is very little creaking and minimal flexing. I found that the back battery door moves just a little bit, but this not a problem. The slide opens smoothly and closes with a nice click.
I had two problems with the phone; the phone's LCD screen was just slightly off to the left so the bottom left most pixel is obscured. This may seem VERY nitpicky (even somewhat crazy) ... ...same screen found on my Nokia 5190 and 6190. Seeing that this is a newer and much more expensive phone I was hoping that the screen would feature a higher resolution. The LCD is backlit with bluish LEDs which makes the screen appear purplish. I was also disappointed with the backlighting because Nokia chose to stay with the uneven LED lights instead of a nice even electro luminescent backlit screen.
The 8890 features 20 buttons, 6 are above the ...

Advantages: Small Sleek and Very Sexy Disadvantages: The aerial is a fragile affair
The Nokia 8890 is the company's first "world phone" in that it supports both 900MHz and 1900MHz GSM. This allows operation in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and some parts of Asia as well as the majority of North America. Physically, the phone looks very similar to the 8850, which is designed for the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands, with the addition of small aerial. The 8890 is marginally smaller than the chrome 8810 and seven grammes lighter. It is finished ... ...and not real metal. I have wondered why the phone isn't tri-band (like some of the Motorola Timeports), but for those using a 900MHz operator like Vodafone and Cellnet, or a 1900MHz operator like VoiceStream or Pacific Bell Wireless, this will not be a problem. If you are a user of Orange, one2one or any other 1800MHz network, you will need to consider one of the tri-band Motorolas. The battery life is claimed as being 50-150 hours in standby mode, ...

Advantages: Stylish, infrared and modem built in. Tri-band functionality. Disadvantages: Expensive, get very hot after extended use.
I swapped my original Nokia 8850 for the 8890 when I needed a phone to use in the US. Due to the fact that the 8890 is Tri-Band it means that not only does it work with all major networks in the UK (Vodaphone, Cellnet, Orange, One2One) but also with most cellular networks in the US.
The 8890 is encased in a sleek brushed aluminium casing with silver trim and has a black head sporting the Nokia logo. The keypad is accessible via a slider at the front ... ...The screen carries the traditional Nokia menu system with a blue backlight, which makes a refreshing change from the usual yellow backlight on other Nokia phones. Once the slider is down to reveal the keypad it also illuminates in a blue light for a period of 10 second to allow the user to clearly see the keys (although this feature can be turned off). The phone is able to store 250 names in its memory and contains the standard Nokia ring tones plus ...

Advantages: look at the text Disadvantages: look at the text
Thus, I must say. The Nokia 8890 looks really totally beautiful, but the appearance alone does not count. A still so beautiful Handy could be totally stupid in reality and bring nothing. Therefore I took the Nokia 8890 times somewhat more exactly under the magnifying glass: I found out that only 2 hours and 30 minutes load it to the integrated vibrationsthing need. By the showing the display, to which displays the Akku is as full, one can in time ... ...are, then they take the Nokia 8890 to stop and call the pocket calculator. But which is, if they forgot, why it so early rise must, because they played one of the 4 plays, which are to be found on the Nokia, for example, then look it simply into the calendar, which can enter 50 entries. The Nokia has also a lighting of the keys, but one often uses, if one goes into the WAP, but is not WAP able unfortunately that 8890 and that is totally beschissen. ...

Advantages: stylish, light, not so expensive as Nokias Disadvantages: not as well known as Nokia, needed time to adjust to using it
...I have to admit that with Nokia being the most popular mobile on the market I have never even considered Sony Z5 as an option. However after my so much beloved Nokia8890 got stolen three times I have decided that I should get a completely different phone!! The only models almost at the same level with Nokia (at least price wise) were new Samsung and Sony Z5. I haven’t heard much about Samsung phones before so I’ve decided to go for the Sony. I liked the design (trendy and still no too fancy), it was also very light and seem to have all the usual features the top phones have. At first I found it a bit difficult to adjust to it, the menu was completely different from the Nokia. But now I have no problems at all and I find the phone is as easy to use as the Nokia. I went to Russia a few weeks ago and I was surprised...

Advantages: Lovely Finish,Easy to use Disadvantages: Lack of features by today's standards, Reliability
...This phone is still one of Nokia's classic phones. Back in its day,it was one of the flagship models along with the Nokia8890. So what is all the fuss about?.To put simply the finish on this phone was unlike anything else on the market as it has a metallic grey finish which stood out from all the other phones. In terms of features it was pretty standard but it does have infrared as well as t9 input, text messaging, games, voice dialling, speed dialling. One of the best features of this phone is that you slide the front fascia down in order to answer phone calls. It is also a very light phone as it weighs 91 grams and it is very nicely designed too.
To use is very pleasant too but the keys on the keypad are very small so using it can be a bit fiddly.Nonetheless the screen has a nice blue display and the build quality is pretty good too....
