...a weaving machine. My local Nokia service centre in Kent (top one) does not repair this phone still. I actually prefer my 8310 now I have had the firmware upgraded and it no longer reboots. Nokia's bluetooth is very crap compared to Ericssons. The audio using a Nokia HDW2 with an old Ericsson is far better than with a Nokia mobile. I pondered getting an 8910 for quite a while due to similar spec of 8310 which I already owned. I took the plunge and was glad I did. 8310's are so common now and it's nice to have a handset which no one else has. It's a real shame that the phone is just dual band, tri band operation would have drawn a wider audience. Picture messaging and colour don't interest me,I use phones for calls & text.
PLEASURE The screen of the 8910 is greyscale which is a lot nicer than the black/white screen of the 8310. I use the bluetooth feature daily to send text messages, had no problem in pairing up the belkin usb bluetooth adapter and the phone. Also managed to pair up with a 7650 and a Ericsson T39 without any problems. Menu wise the 8310 and 8910 are identical apart from radio on 8310 and bluetooth + clock screen saver of 8910. The software (V4.02) on the phone is stable which cannot be said of recent 8310 software. 8310 frequently reboots whilst texting, all my mates 8310's do the same. Have not had the 8910 crash yet. The up periscope feature is good but left side release button is getting worn now and is quite loose.
PAIN I have managed to scratch the phone already after dropping the phone into the footwell of my car whilst driving, the array of stones took the grey finish off the titanium and I now have a shiny scratch which is a pain. I also have quite a large number of dust particles between the front glass and the LCD. The top extendable part of the phone is gradually getting loose from the bottom and when writing a text you can feel it moving about which makes it feel cheap. The biggest pain with the phone is the keys, the backlighting is terrible and unless your a hardcore texter who doesn't need to look at keys you'll be hunting down a light to see the keys. I usually have to switch on the interior light in my car just to write a message!
Update: 21 May 03 The slider is now very loose and although the button action is still pretty good. Once the phone is open the two halves are very loose and upon pressing the buttons unless holding both parts the phone makes more noise than a weaving machine. If you've got an 8310 then don't bother upgrading 2 an 8910. The whole concept of pressing the triggers to access pisses me off now.
Update: 13 Oct 03 After the 8 button gave out and the repair place loosing my phone I got a new replacement 8910. I used the 8310 whilst the 8910 was away and the bloody thing crashed all the time. Tried many 8310's and after sending a few texts the blasted things reboot! Tried a 7210 for a whaile and a 6100, the new speakers Nokia use are rubbish, very poor sound indeed. My 8910 has never rebooted and if you've got an 8310 or similar and are tempted to upgrade to a new colour Nokia then forget it if you wanna use it for voice calls because the speakers are terrible!
Advantages: Attracts girls like moths to titanium. Disadvantages: Sometimes they're men.
Nokia 8910:
Sit Rep:
Wife and daughter have Vodafone pay as you go (that I paid for), me a dead and defunct Siemens C35 courtesy of Cellnet Genie (see my first ever op). Attempt to buy Vodafone via dialaphone.co.yuk (see future op). Turned down on Vodafone's credit rating allegedly.
Mission:
Shopping Centre:Whitgift:Croydon:1200 hours - @Phones4u. Explain credit rating hiccup, no contract needed as I am a social lepper, just payasugo 4me. Revelation ... ...but a bit common. The Nokia is a bit of a brick and won't fit in the Armani suits I'm about to buy. The T68i Siemens is nice, but my mate's got one and he wasn't in matrix.
Mission Update:
Get daughter off lap, wife bored and paying no further attention. "Titanium" I whisper - 8910 she moans with that all-knowing look. "Ai-Carumba!" I think quietly to myself as she uncurls her long frame from behind the desk to get me an example piece.
What's ...

Advantages: Futuristic and full of features Disadvantages: Some of the keys are difficult to use
I was lent this phone to 'test drive' by a friend - so before I get to the price (which almost put me through the floor) I just wanted to make that clear.
The outer cover is made of titanium which makes the cover extremely strong, light in weight and a little snazzy.
The cover hides its key pad, which is accessible by pressing 2 small catches on the sides of the phone. This then activates an auto opening system, very much Star Trek fashion.

The phone is also 'bluetooth' compatible. This doesn't mean too much to me, but I am told that this is something that enables the phone to send/retrieve emails from a personal data assitant (PDA) or a laptop - so long as they are also bluetooth enabled.
When this function is switched on, it automatically communicates with any compatible device ...

Advantages: Great looks & slide, rare, bluetooth Disadvantages: Keys not backlit, can't reject calls
nokia 8910 hello everyone i know it sounds wierd to call a phone sexy, but this one really is! it's black (limited edition black, don't like the other 'natural' titanium colour) titanium casing is cold to the touch (until you warm it up), very sleek and well, very sexy. push the two chrome buttons on side together and the top of the phone slides smoothly and slowly upwards. no sharp snap like on the 7110 (although that was cool too!). this phone ... ...amazing. large chrome nokia branded plate on the rear and chrome buttons also. absolutely to-die-for design like no other phone available. features *ok, sexy titanium casing - think i've covered that! *bluetooth - works a treat with headsets but haven't tried anything else. bluetooth in car kits sounds very cool but don't really need one when you've got a headset. *large memory for calendar, text messages and contacts. *to-do list with 30 entries. ...

... ...Combine that with the standard Nokia operating system and the drop proof titanium case (believe me, I've tested it!), and I thought I was onto a winner. Then I tried to make a call in the dark.......impossible.
The keys are not back-lit so making calls at night in the car is tough, resulting in embarrasing wrong number incidents. Also, Nokia must have had S-Club Juniors in mind when they designed the keys as my thumb can cover the entire keypad!

. To use this you would search for what you wish to download via WAP which is included on this phone. You will then be directed to Java sites to obtain what you wish to download.
This phone also carries Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth works in a similar way to Infrared in that it can send pictures, messages and such like without paying for text messages or the cost of downloading them. However, Bluetooth is more advanced than Infrared as it has the ability to send to mobile devices in the distance of 10 meters as opposed to Infrared which can send up a distance of only a meter.
Also, the 8910i has a colour display of 5000 colours.

Advantages: Great Looking Phone, Stylish, Easy to Use, Bluetooth Disadvantages: Better colour screens available.Fewer features than the original 8910, but the features that are there are much better
I have recently upgraded my old 8910 to the new 8910i. The first thing that I noticed was the colour screen. Now this was one of the things that I was disappointed about. Not only was the screen smaller than that of the predecessor, but I have seen much higher quality screens on other mobile phones currently available today. OK, a colour screen is a colour screen if your only going to use the phone for making calls, but if you are into MMS and picture messaging then dont expect to be impressed. In fact, given that this is one of the most expensive phones on the market at present, and the fact that Nokia usually produce high standards of mobile communications equipment, I was extremely disapointed with the low resolution and limited colours that were on offer. When I had the original 8910, I also made use of the voice recorder facility ...

Advantages: Stylish, easy to use, very desireable Disadvantages: Expensive, no camera
Over the last 3 years I've had quite a few phones, Ericsson T68, Sony Ericsson T610, Nokia 6210, 8310 and now a 8910i.
I would honestly say that the Nokia8910i is the best phone I've ever owned, it has very similar features to the Sony Ericsson T610 but like all over Nokia's it is so much easier to use. The only thing that the T610 is better in is that it has a camera and higher memory for storage of text messages and pictures.
I've always preferred the build quality of Nokia's over any other manufacture of phone, and the 8910i is no different, it feels solid, it's not too light and not too heavy. The best thing about it is that it is made of titanium and it has a perfect finish. By pressing a button on either side of the case the screen pops up exposing the keypad which again feels very solid.
It has many features like colour ...
