When I went to buy a new phone on contract, I wasn't looking to spend over £20 per month, and so didn't expect to get an amazing phone. This phone stood out to me right away, it's so beautiful! When I saw it, I had a play on it, and thought 'wish I had more money to buy a phone like this'. It was to my surprise that the Nokia Lumia 800 was to be free for £20.50 a month on Orange. Even though the contract was for a whole 24 months, the amount I would pay by the end would be barely larger than the amount the phone would cost on pay as you go. And with 500mb of internet, unlimited texts and 100 minutes, there was no other side to the argument.

First of all, the phone looks amazing. I own the black Nokia Lumia 800 and it just looks so beautiful. The glass covers most of the front of the phone; when the phone is off, you can't tell where the screen starts and ends. And when the phone's on, if you have chosen the 'dark' theme, it can also be hard to tell where the screen starts and ends, making the screen look even bigger than it already is.

The screen is very bright, but does adapt to however dark the room is that you're in. I think this is great because I'm never in a situation where it's too bright to see text on my phone. However, if you do not like the idea of the screen brightness adapting, you can, of course, stop this in the settings.

One main reason to why people choose Apple products over others is due to the touch-screens on their products. Compared to many other phones, Apple touch-screens respond a lot quicker. But, when it comes to the Nokia Lumia 800, I can't imagine the touch-screen being any better. It's just so responsive and perfect. Everything just slides and flows and ahhh it just feels so nice to use!

Back to the contract that I'm on, and how the phone was such amazing value for quality. Some people may not see 100 minutes as enough for them, but for many people this can be more than enough. (There are, of course, other contracts with more minutes but I haven't looked into these.) I, when I brought the phone, didn't know anything about data or what 500mb of internet meant. The phone salesmen told me this was more than enough but they were trying to sell me the phone, so I wasn't sure to believe them. I did buy the phone though, just because I fell in love with it and it's value, and soon realised that these phone salesmen weren't lying to me. I downloaded a free 'Your Orange' app which tells me how many minutes, texts and data I use. This month, after using the internet almost everyday, I have used under 60mb of data. Although, I've been warned not to download or stream anything without a WiFi connection as this may quickly eat up my 500mb. But that was no problem for me, and I don't see why it should be a problem for many people, regarding the amount of free WiFi spots there are around now, and in our houses.

Even though the Your Orange app was free, I have yet to find many other good free apps in the Windows Marketplace. The apps seem very overpriced in the Marketplace, and there does not seem to be as many as in the Apple App Store, but I have a feeling that the Marketplace will soon catch up.

I have downloaded a few apps from the Marketplace, such as Line Birds, which is free, and they play very nicely and seamlessly.

When I brought the phone, it was presented, in the store, next to the headphones, insinuating that the phone is good for listening to music. Music is a big part of my life and I wanted a phone that meant I could listen to music without having both a phone and an MP3 player on me. Music sounds great on the Nokia Lumia 800, and a lot of it can be stored in the 16gb that the phone has to offer. The music sounds great through the headphones that come free with the phone too; the headphones that come with the phone are actually very attractive, I would argue better looking and, most definitely, better quality than those little white ones that you get with Apple products.

Listening to music on my Nokia Lumia 800 doesn't seem to bring the battery down much at all. I listen to music from it whenever I travel around, which is often between 1 or 2 hours everyday, and I don't often end up with the 'battery saver' turning on (this turns on automatically when your phone's battery is low, making the very most out of the phone's battery). I do charge my Nokia Lumia 800 every night though, but that is what most people do nowadays anyway. It's become part of our daily routine for many of us. If that goes for you too, then you should have no worries over the battery power of the Nokia Lumia 800.

I know quite a lot about cameras and when I noticed the Carl Zeiss Tessar lens on the phone, after I had already brought it, I was overwhelmed! These lens are very famous for their quality, and this lens is just the icing on the cake that is an 8mp camera with a great flash. I use the camera daily, uploading pictures to Twitter all the time (which can be done very quickly and with ease with the Nokia Lumia 800). Even without unlocking the phone, you can access the camera in an instant for when you need to capture an image or high definition video quickly.

I go to many gigs, where the crowds are jumping around everywhere (including myself) and I always have my phone on me. I've even recorded videos whilst in moshpits, and have dropped my phone a number of times. My Lumia is in a very stylish leather case, but I have dropped it on it's glass face and it hasn't even a scratch. I believe it's quite rugged but I'm not going to attempt throwing it out of my window, it's too beautiful.

All smart phone cases seem extremely overpriced, I payed £20 for a flip-up leather case, but it has kept my phone in great out-of-the-box condition. The phone does, however, come with a rubber case! I'd like to see the day that Apple gives a customer a complimentary iPhone case.

All in all, I can't really find any downsides to this phone. And if you have a friend that won't shut up about their iPhone, you can tell them how your Nokia Lumia 800 has a larger screen, a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, and you can ask them if they got a free case with their phone.
