Thanks to my insurance cover I was able to get hold of a Nokia N70 free of charge. This did two things, made me breathe a huge sigh of relief that I wouldn't have to wander around with the ugly Sendo phone I have previously reviewed and secondly I could return to a Nokia handset.
The phone is labelled as the ultimate in mobile phone technology and not only looks stylish it has an amazing array of features packed within the relatively small shell which comes in a lovely silver colour and is not dissimilar to most mobile phones/PDA's offered from a range of other manufacturers due to the large colour screen that has a 176x208 pixel display that will support up to 262,144 different colours. In reality it supports about 150 noticeable colours with varying shades making up the remainder. Despite the large display and easy to use buttons the phone still only weighs 126g, this means that is doesn't feel like a brick and fits snugly into the palm of my hand.
Using the phone after it has been charged is child's play. Once the Memory Card has been inserted and the SIM card registered you are ready to explore and you won't be disappointed with your purchase.
The many features of the N70 are accessed by the menu. The menu is easy to navigate as you would expect from a Nokia phone. Basically the phone allows you to:
Send and receive SMS and MMS text messages. The large screen allows you to see more text before needing to scroll down and means that when typing lengthy messages you don't have to keep going backwards and forwards to see what you have already written.
Store names and telephone numbers. I have 14 names in my phone so I am nowhere near filling up this section but I would imagine that it has quite a large capacity due to the 64MB memory card.
Radio.
Gallery. This contains the wallpapers, ringtones, stored photographs and video clips.
Imaging. Using the 2 megapixel camera you can take and store photographs and video clips. The detail and quality of the pictures are stunning and on a par with a digital camera. The video clips are also of a good quality but I wouldn't use this feature on a regular basis as the clips take up too much storage space on the memory card.
Music. The N70 can be connected to your PC and downloaded music such as mp3 files can be played. These downloaded tunes can be used as ringtones which is a nice touch and much cheaper than paying for them from the many rip off mobile phone companies.
The N70 is Bluetooth and WAP enabled but I don't use these functions at all and I have deleted the games to free up memory as they were nothing to shout about.
All in all this is a great little phone that stays charged on average for about 2 days and has a good call quality with the volume settings being adequate even for those of us who are hard of hearing. Personally I would recommend the N70 but only if you can pick it up for around £100. At a cost of £100 or more I would seriously recommend that you consider looking at a different model.
