First impressions can be deceiving, and I have to say that is true of the Nokia N73. Most people I've asked have said it looks quite big and bulky. Never the less I bought one because I really like it!

From a first glance it does appear to be oversized compared too many of the slinky mobile phones in the market nowadays. The colour may not do the phone any good initially, but the housing can easily be changed. Admittedly this is quite difficult as they are quite difficult to remove, needing special tools to remove the fascias, a T6 screwdriver and an opening tool. Although if the new housing is bought of eBay as I did, they are included in the price.

Although it does depends on the version of the N73 you are fortunate enough own, will depend on the colours of your phone anyway. A direct from t-mobile or a t-mobile locked phone, in my experience, does not have the greatest colour scheme; being grey and white. This also includes a white keyboard, which I am more than aware that it is increasingly likely to become dirty, but these are able to be changes also. Although it does seem like extra expense but it is worth every penny in my opinion.

The features;

The digest draw of the N-series in general is the high quality cameras. The N73 boasts a 3.2 mega-pixel Carl Zeiss camera with red-eye reduction and multiple flash options, with a protective, sliding, dust free cover over the lens and video capabilities; you can't really go wrong if you happen to accidentally forget your camera and have a precious moment to capture. The picture quality is very good, except when you first get the phone, it will seem a bit grainy but snap away a few times and its picture perfect. the flash can quickly be altered from automatic to red-eye reduction through a simple menu button. surprisingly the file size of a full 3.2 mega pixel photo is not as large as may be expected, at between 290kb - 400kb.

The flash on this camera has red-eye reduction and a number of different flash options. It also has a better flash than my own digital camera. There are a number of scene modes for taking your photos in, from portrait to sports. Another great thing about this phone is the slide cover, this easily protects the camera lens, I know most cameras have these now but I am impressed by them! Although from personal experience I know that tight jeans can push the lens cover away leaving you to feel free to take photos of the insides of your pockets.

The screen on this phone is a 2.4inch crystal clear screen, which makes photos bright and clear despite the initial quality of the photo originally. Although the screen does tend to get a bit grubby when moved around and used a fair amount, in my box however I was given a cloth which I have found fairly handy for both my camera lens and my screen after a hard days use! For the size of the phone the screen is an impressing size and doesn't compromise the usability of the phone in the slightest.

Each of the icons within the main menu leads off into millions of little menus, I'll give you a brief detailing of each;

Messaging… pretty self explanatory, leads you to the inbox, outbox, sent and reports which means you can track your messages. The only downside I have found with this is that the reports if not initially delivered don't give the time the message was actually delivered. It also gives you access to Yahoo, BT and AOL internet and emails which if you are needing the phone for more business options it is very handy! The memory for messages is large as well, I have hundreds of messages and it has not once warned me the box is full.

Contacts… similar to before there is also a lot of space for contacts, I have hundred or so contacts in my phone book and there is much more space to be filled. You can add photos on each contact in the phone memory, addresses and email contacts to each person in your phone book, which is almost a address book in your phone.

Log… holding the call log basically, missed calls received calls and outgoing calls.

Settings… Change the wallpaper, call settings, date and time, and security features. All very self explanatory, just be careful when changing security settings as you would with every phone as you could end up locking yourself out of your phone!

Gallery… you can access your photos music and video files here, the photos have a amazing quality screen when shown. The music player on this phone is exceptional, the speakers are brilliant the sound level can be raised incredibly loud if you find the need to be that loud in a public place! The video camera actually works off computer level 'Real player,' determining this phones capabilities as an entertainment centre not just a messaging centre and an almost PDA style phone.

Games… the traditional snake game, with what seems a million levels, but is as addictive as when it was first introduced on the earlier Nokia mobiles in the 90's! it doesn't drain the battery as much as you would expect either, just as well with the highly addictiveness of the game!

Office… has a few very interesting options for word processing and publishers, I think just storing the files as in the past 2 weeks I haven't had chance to use the feature yet! One feature within this I have used a lot has been the calculator, it s fairly easy to use and a great deal of help looking at my week by week spending for university!

Application, Interactive and Tools… are very similar in what they do they hold a few items to alter the phones appearance and the blue tooth, but regardless of this I did get fairly confused as to which application I needed to change my profile settings!

The battery life on this phone is a much better one that my previous phone, this N73 has a 2-3 day battery life with the kind of abuse I give it (which seems to be a fair amount) and I'm sure with a lower usage it would last much longer. The keypad is good if you have small to medium sized fingers. I would imagine given the size of the buttons with large hands you could end up pushing to many keys at once!

The radio is a really good feature too, in my box I got a free set of headphones so I can use my radio whenever I want to and the quality of the listening is brilliant. Perhaps that depends on the area but I was very impressed. In the box you do get a data cable in which to transfer data from your computer to the phone, alternatively you can buy a blue tooth dongle which are incredibly easy to use and low priced from places like Argos.

I got my phone from little woods catalogue for £109.99 which is a snippet of the price it originally was. Despite this though I would have paid more for it as I think it is a great phone with great features. It is a highly recommended product for any consumer even someone who wants a less technological phone. You should be put of or scared by the technology… You don't have to use it!

If you do buy this phone in the future you are sure not to be disappointed!
