Having owned the Nokia N79 in black for about 5 months, I am very happy with my decision and the overall experience of using the phone.
The phone is truly a "jack of all trades" - and a master of many. As with many of the N series Nokia phones, it succeeds in all areas. Perhaps the most significant is the multimedia aspect - the camera on the phone is good - but does not perform particularly well in darker conditions (to be expected given the small sensor size on camera phones). I feel that a xenon flash could have improved this - but nonetheless, the camera is perfect for the majority of applications. Music capabilities are also very good - the Nokia software actually makes it easy to load music onto the phone (once its on the memory card, the phone searches for all music files then categorises it into artist/album etc) the navi wheel is similar to that seen on the click wheels and makes it easy to quickly scroll through a music collection. The feature I use the most is the on-line radio function - allowing me to listen to the radio over the internet when I'm about the house.
However, the majority of these functions rely on the good connections the phone offers - primarily the Wi-fi which makes it much easier to download music on the move and is convenient for grabbing emails or quickly checking something on the move. Similarly, the 3g connection is fast in areas with good coverage (and is sufficient to run the online radio function). Call quality is also good - as is the text facility both of which are the standard S60 set up.
However there are a couple of annoyances - primarily the accelerometer which is way too sensitive and disturbs messaging. It also occasionally freezes requiring the battery to be removed. But the biggest annoyance is the fact that when in standby, the screen is blank - requiring it to be unlocked in order to check the time etc.
Overall, I'd happily recommend the phone - and hopefully Nokia will sort out a couple of the faults with a software upgrade.
Advantages: 5mp camera, wi-fi, gps, radio, large screen Disadvantages: buttons can be a little small
...really well. The phone has nokia maps installed but I have got Garmin mobile installed which works really well and is very accurate. The GPS was one of the main reasons I got the phone and im very happy with is performance.
The only fiddly thing about the phone is the button size, my husband has the same phone and he finds it a little tricky pushing the buttons when writing a text by I can’t say I have this problem, something to think about when ... ...phone has is the ability to transmit on FM. So you have downloaded music you like off the net onto you phone and you want to listen to it, the two speakers the phone has are pretty good and sound ok but this phone can transmit to any FM radio tuned to the right frequency. So if you’re like me and the aerial on your car radio is not good I switch to my phones music through the stereo and listen to that instead - pretty cool I think!
The phone has ...

...get a Nokia- what happened. Nokia used to make some fantastic simple phones and thats where they went wrong they decided to make things too complicated. They made silly flip and twist phones and phones like gameboys and don't seem to have recovered. The menus have changed to overly complicated long-winded and unneccessary the handsets crash more often than a 1995 pc and half the applications don't work properly. and you are only going to find all ...
