Nokia has finally come up with a phone that can take the competition right back to Apple.
The N97 is a great phone. It has got all the latest gizmos all bundled into one.
The 3.5" touchscreen is a treat. However it still is not as good as the iPhone interface.
The 32GB memory (upgradeable to 48GB) is just amazing. You could store all your songs on it.
The camera is amazing. Comes with Carl Zeiss lens and the pictures that I took on them seem really great. A lot better than the iPhone's pictures. The difference is obvious when you move them to your computer and then watch the photos.
The GPS is quite good. This one trumps the iPhone on getting the location (i.e. time taken to hook onto satellites), but is not as easy to use as the iPhone GPS Compass, which is integrated into Google Maps.
The sliding mechanism is surprising sturdy. This exposes the QWERTY key board. So this phone has both a QWERTY (if you wish to use it) and a touch screen.
The operating system on the phone is Symbian, which is great, as most of the latest softwares have already been ported to Symbian. So you can get hold of Skype and Fring on the phone and it would work straight out.
The N97's Symbian is also a proper operating system. The one on the iPhone is quite primitive and it cannot even multi task. That is, the iPhone cannot process two different applications at the same time. Which is quite a pain if you say want Skype (or Fring) logged in permanently.
Overall the N97 is a great gadget. But would I give up my iPhone for it. The answer to be frank is NO.
