I opened my savings account with the Northern when I was about 12 and kept it, as well as adding additional current accounts etc until I was 32. Unfortunately customer loyalty accounts for nothing and they got to the stage where they would have brought in a policy of charging you for walking past their bank if they thought they could get away with it. Go 1p into the red and out pops a letter at a cost of £25 telling you that you are overdrawn. Maybe there are others the same but I have now lifted all my accounts and transferred them to a more understanding bank which is more in line with what I expect from them. A building society that became a bank, it is now the 8th largest UK quoted bank by market capitalisation and in the FTSE 100 companies on the London Stock Exchange.
I checked out the website at www.northernrock.co.uk . It offers a friendly and simple front end, the user interface becomes increasingly complex as you search for your specific product. The site HOME page offers the usual Help and Contact details.

Ws it going to happen for me - not at all - not with the crap account I had.
I went to NorthernBank asking them could I change my account over to a current account. I was depositing nearly £350 per month into my savings account (and this was on regular dates every month) and was told that because I didnt work I was unable to get this sort of an account!!! WHAT!?!?!?!?! I know that I wasnt working - OK, fair enough - but I know I am 100% corrct in thinking if I had of been working part time and earning only £150 a month I wouldve been given this ...

of this policy and they refused. So what cann yuou do . I closed my account and moved my mortgage which my father is now doing as well due to their outrageous way of dealing with someone who has come here to help the economy with his expertise. Thankfully the First Trust bank in Northern Ireland where I live had no such problems and I would recommend them anytime. ...
