A physical education graduate who loves Sport! Awaiting a start date for West Yorkshire Police in the new year. I enjoy keeping fit and socialising - the weekend is my clubbing oyster!

I searched the web looking for a loan to reduce the size of my student overdraft with my then current bank account. Having used the usual search engines Northen Rock always seemed to offer the best rates in terms of APR.
I decided to log onto the website and carry out some further research - the website was very easy to navigate round and had all the information needed to make the right decision.
However what they offered over the website was indeed different to the rate they sent out through the post on the contract - although it was worth mentioning that the time it took to send the contract out was very efficient indeed.
The revamped APR was still very low for the amount I was wanting to borrow and the length of time I was borrowing over (3 years and £2000 @ APR of 7.9%). So I decided to take the plunge and sign the forms.
However it is also worth mentioning that in order for the transaction to be processed into my account they charged me £45 one off payment. Ok this isn't the end of the world but they told me this was the only method of payment into my account - apparently the free BACS method was 'unavailable' at the time?!
Overall I was impressed with the service and customer service (aside from the £45 one off payment) offered by Northern Rock. I will seriously consider using them to extend my loan when purchasing a car in the new year.

Good review. Maybe the £45 fee was in small print? Nevertheless a very steep charge and I didn't know loan companies did that so it was a useful to bear in mind when borrowing money especially if you are a student when money is hard to come by as it is!

A good review, and you gave some useful information. The only thing I would disagree with is your title, I don't think that a loan is the solution to student debt, it only puts you further in debt! But you still get a V.H. from me and we'll agree to differ!xxx
