Norton Anti-Virus protects your computer thoroughly and is able to detect the viruses before they can affect your computer.
This is done by providing you with:
1) Email protection 2) Web Protection 3) Live Updates
Email Protection -------------------- This is the easiest way for a virus to penetrate your computer and usually it is only after the virus has entered your computer that the Anti-Virus software detects it. This detection is only done when you run a scan and could possibly be several hours or days after the actual virus has entered your machine. During this time the virus would have had time to infect many more files on your machine. With this version your email attachments are scanned for viruses as your receive them and prior to them going into your email account ie. Outlook Express. If a virus is found you are then asked what you want Norton to do with it. You can either ask for it to be repaired if possible, delete it or put it into quarantine.

Live Updates ---------------- When you first install Norton 2001 all known viruses are included in the coverage. However as everyone is aware new viruses are coming up almost on a daily basis. Some of these can have devastating effects and your prevailing Anti-Virus software will not be able to deal with it, since it is not updated. Live update allows you to connect to the Symantec (Norton) website and download the updates to the software. This ensures complete coverage even from the newest of viruses. I personally have set mine to update every day and at least four times in a week it does actually do an update and downloads the required data and automatically updates your software. This goes to show you that new information and virus protection is constantly being added and provided to users for added security free of charge.
Norton 2001 automatically protects your computer for viruses from any types of files. You can select which files you want it to scan prior to opening and select what you want Norton to do with them if a virus is located.
Running a complete scan is also selectable by duration ie. You can set it to run a scan automatically every one week. This is the general scan that will scan you complete computer and depending on the number of programmes and files you have can take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes. Since you computer is already protected for incoming virus this is more like an additional safeguard and that is why I and I presume many others only run it once a week.
When I first installed it on my computer, I had about a week prior to that date run an Online Virus Scan with Trend PCillin. PCillin did not find any viruses at that time but when I ran the Norton 2001 it found a total of 11 viruses on my computer, which Trend PCillin had not picked up. This convinced me for sure that Norton 2001 is totally upto date in this aspect and assures you of the best available protection.
I understand that the 2002 version is now out but irrespective of whatever version you have, with the live updates you will always have the latest version.
At just below £35.00 this is a very small price to pay for complete protection and peace of mind.
I high recommend Norton Antivirus for all computer users.

Norton AntiVirus works in two main ways, checking the files that are already on your computer, and checking the ones that are coming in via email. I'll start with the ones that are already on the computer.
Norton checks, by default, only program and document file types, but you can easily enough set it to scan all files every single time they are used. Of course, this would significantly slow your system due to the extra ... ...a good idea to tell Norton to perform a full scanning of your system about once a week - just to make sure that everything is working properly, and no gremlins have crept into the system.
On the email side of the package, you can set up all your email to be passed through Norton's proxy server, where it is scanned for any beasties that might be lurking in your emails. This is essential. Whereas in the old days you would be quite correct in thinking ...

Norton Anitvirus is fantastic. This is the perfect antivirus tool for anyone. It keeps your computer under constant surveillance to make sure no nasty little viruses are trying to jump the fences into you your digital paradise. I have been using Norton Antivirus for years. Advantages: Easy to use, customizable, very competent and thorough virus protection. Disadvantages: Doesn't work in conjunction with some other antivirus softwares - but that's okay.
...done, my PC geek installed Norton Antivirus on the system and told me to be VERY, VERY sure that the LiveUpdate is enabled so that I'll have the most comprehensive virus protection on the market.
Now that I've gone and told you how important it is to remember to use virus software, let me tell you exactly why I trust Symantec's program so much. (But, because I did not install it, I cannot tell you if I personally would have had an easy time getting ... ...prompted for further action.
Norton has a very thorough and comprehensive virus library - every type of virus and just about all the various specific viruses are noted in the software so that the program can detect just about anything that might try to invade your system. ...Anyway, here’s an opinion on Norton AntiVirus 2003. Bought a new pc in November last year, quite a nice little number, but paid for what we wanted.
