It is now known that if you use a PC / MAC, it is a good idea (vital) to have Anti Virus software (AVS). If you connect to Internet, LAN (local area network), VPN (virtual private network), P2P (Peer to Peer) or use other means of file sharing such as disks in whatever format etc… Then the risk of getting a virus is enormous. Viruses come in all sorts of strange and wonderful ways. Be it a virus, Trojan horse, worm, spy ware etc… then it is well worth investing in Anti virus software.
The anti-virus software prevents known viruses from destroying those important documents or the smooth running of your PC.
Firewall, blocks ports (doors) which are normally left open. This, if used correctly is very efficient. It is rather complicated to set up and like so many computer programs needs time to comprehensively understand. If you run a home / office network it needs to be configured to allow known users (ports to be open) so each PC can interact, yet at the same time 'blocking' unknown PCs from connecting (eg: Those Hacker dudes out there).
Parental control, allows the parents to configure and block certain web sites by entering the link (www address). This is rather good if you have young children in the house. "I think it is best to supervise children at this age rather than use software". Available if needed.
Intrusion Alert, blocks traffic (other users) from accessing your PC. Warns you when a intrusion (hack) attempt is made.
Another issues I had was allowing access to the LAN (home network). Adding ports is quite complicated and a knowledge of TCP/IP is needed. The 'wizard' is not explicit enough and I found it difficult to understand.
Finally, the after sales service is based On-line. You need to visit Symantec's website and make sure that you read everything there is before calling them. Their website is complicated and infuriatingly overcrowded with information. The call centre is based in Ireland and they quite often they refuse to answer the telephone. This too is at great cost to the user (phone bill).
Symantec's Norton Internet Security 2005 provides essential protection from viruses, ... more
hackers, and privacy threats. Norton AntiVirus is the world's most trusted antivirus solution. Norton Personal Firewall keeps personal data in and hackers out. And Nor...
