From what I have heard, most people have a satisfactory experience of Norton, however for me it was a complete nightmare.
It is reasonably priced, as I'm a great believer in you get what you pay for and it's the most trusted name around. I'd checked the system requirements and was told by the salesman in Currys that it's idiot proof to install.
I have a laptop and so i went straight home and tried to install it. The initial installation was fine, very easy to follow the instructions and seemed to work straight away. The problems came when it came to activating the product.
For some unknown reason, it refused to connect to the Symantec server. I'd read the manual which was very helpful, and followed the steps (checking for parental controls etc) but to no avail.
In the end, I decided to call their helpdesk which was infuriating to say the least. All i can say is if you need to phone them be prepared for a long wait. There is a local rate number if you're calling from a mobile, which is great, but I was sat on the phone on hold waiting to speak to an operator for almost an hour before i gave up, and being constantly told not to hang up by a pre-recorded message because calls are answered in the order they're recieved and it would increase my wait time if i did.
I ended up taking it back to currys and explaining my problem. they tried to get through on the phone as well, and they ended up hanging up because i was there for almost 45 minutes!
The next day, I phoned again and after an hour I got through to an operator who took my details etc, and then put me on hold again for 25 minutes to speak to a technician. In the end the problem was solved, and it was up and running. It did a full scan of my computer with no problems, except for a couple of tracing cookies which it dealt with.
The next day however, I couldnt get into my laptop at all. After I'd enter my password it would freeze. It turned out that the laptop would only get past the log in stage with the norton disc in the computer, which is ridiculous. With the disc it would go to the desktop and freeze befoe all of the icons could load up. This was on a saturday and i'd been trying to get into my laptop since roughly 11am. Again, I decided to call Norton, and again, I was on hold for over an hour before i even got through to the first operator. In the end, it took two hours for a technician to come through and connect to my laptop via safe mode. I'd decided to continue the conversation via the IM screen to save my phone bill, as he had to run a diagnostic scan, and he assured me that he would call me back if we got disconnected. He ran the scan, but it brought up the same tracing cookies that it supposedly dealt with the day before! To make matters worse, the operator seemed to have disappeared and then it was saying that he'd ended the chat session.
I waited a good hour and half with no phone call. It was now around 4pm and i was getting more and more irritated. Eventully i called back and after only a half hour wait this time, i was put through to an operator and then put on hold again. For the whole time i was on hold, i was half watching 'into the wild' on sky premier and the film had finished before i got through to someone. that film is almost 3 hours long. I was reconnected on my laptop to a different operator. He uninstalled the program and then told me i had to restart the laptop but that i would automatically reconnect to their server to continue the conversation.
Needless to say this didnt happen and at around 8pm, after having all of my saturday wasted i disconnected.
It's extremely frustrating because I cant even refund the thing because it's been used, so I've had to give it away to someone else and hope they get better luck out of it. Plus i've had to shell out for another anti virus system.
I'm sure Norton works well for most people, but for me the experience was a nightmare from start to finish, and I wont be buying Norton again, mainly due to the fact that their customer service left a lot to be desired and i got no where at all.
Advantages: Easy to install, simple Disadvantages: None
...this). Last year I had Norton 360 and there are so many things 360 protects you from. But I never liked the idea of remote back-up of files (photos etc..). I prefer to back these up myself, so I never really took full advantage of 360.
In my opinion, this standard Norton security package is just as good. Covers off all the things I need and I use all features (unlike 360). I particularly like the tick/?/X next to each website when searching in Google, ... ...just over-wrote all the existing 360 programs on my PC. It does not complicate it moving between 360 and the standard. Automatically uninstalls 360 when you load this one.
Overall, I would recommend. A good buy and not overpriced. Also, have the reassurance that Norton is protecting my PC. ...

Advantages: Quick to Install, Fast, Better update System Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...boxes to ship them in. Norton internet security has to be the best version yet. As with all the other Norton security packages, it does its job extremely well. I have to admit that I can't remember the last time I got any virus onto my system. The only thing would be the simple tracking cookie. Slowness
People think that when they buy Norton, it completely slows their PC down. Now, this may be true for some of symantecs older security, but ... ...Its insane how quickly it installed. Now that its installed I never notice its there, just silently running in the background. Its actually got a new update system which makes it much quicker and less hastle to update the software. Don't be put off when people say that this product will slow down your computer, I have never noticed it and most of the time its because they've never tried it themselves. I feel its definetly worth it, even if it is ...

Advantages: Quick and sooo easy not to use..... all the work is done for you!!! Disadvantages: Connection with the Tech support is a bit unpredictable
...I just renewed my norton subscription and got a free update to the new 2009 package. AMAZING!!! couldnt have asked for better service, 10 out of 10!!!
I had just rebooted my computer and when I turned it on again my Norton subscription had only 90 days left even though i had just renewed it for a year. I spoke to a member of the Symantac Technical team who requested that i allow him access to my computer to fix it himself which i did. WOW!!! soo ...

Advantages: It is good in detecting viruses, cleaning and deleting virus. Moreover, it is very easy to install Disadvantages: In my opinion,it makes the PC slower,so it is better for those who own good performance computers
I have tried the Norton Internet Security product before, and it was really good in detecting, cleaning and deleting viruses. About the use and installation it is really ease to use, and easy to install as well. It is good for beginners as they will not face problems in using it. But on the other hand, this product had slowed down my PC than it used to be before. So in my opinion, I can say that it is good for those people who own good computers ...

While Symantec's protection is set in stone, the average users experience within Norton Internet Security 2008 could be greatly improved. Not all the features work together, and the program could use fewer system resources. And paying to call support is... more
