Headstart Account
Advantages High interest, account run smoothly.
Disadvantages Can be disconcerting sending off all cheques in the post.
I have had a Headstart children's account for a year and have been very pleased with it. It has a high interest rate compared to other accounts (4.50%) and nothing has gone wrong in the running of the account.
The account is run by post. I have a passbook, and when I want to withdraw or deposit money i send off a filled in form with the passbook (if depositing with a cheque) in a prepaid envelope provided by the bank. Although it can be disconcerting sending off cheques and my passbook in the post, so far everything has run smoothly and the passbook has been returned with the correct transaction applied within a very few days.Apart from that there doesn't seem too much to say. The exact terms and conditions are better taken from the building society than from me. What you really need to know from me is that everything has gone as they told me it would - which it has!

That's a better rate than my Cahoot account, but I have to send cheques by post for that too. Nice op. marc

Further information about setting up the account, ease of getting to branches (eg are they just based in Norwich and Peterborough or are they nationwide?), the customer service you've received, do they have a website? Can you set up an account and run it online? - all these kinds of aspects would help get higher ratings.
