Internet Accounts
Advantages Good all-round: high rates and excellent service
Disadvantages Perhaps best for those in East Anglia/London
N&P offers an extremely reliable and easy to use internet banking facility from which I have benefited for over a year.
Users of the N&P's NetMaster savings account benefit from a 6.2% interest rate. Although this is not the highest rate on the market (Nationwide's e-savings currently hits 7.0%), you do have the advantage of a linked current account with a cheque book and debit card and are able to use branches and phone them up without any charges - unlike other internet banks such as cahoot or egg.Although, the branches are limited to London (opposite Holborn tube) and East Anglia, it is reassuring to know that you can speak to a human if something goes wrong. On the one occasion I experienced any technical difficulty, the support was prompt and thorough - and they called me back on my mobile so I could stay on-line whilst sorting the problem out.
Sadly for you carpetbaggers, new members as of 29th September are required to sign away any demutualisation windfalls to charity - but don't let that detract from a great service.
