I decided that I needed some life insurance, as I recently became a mum and started worrying about what would happen to my little boy if anything happened to me. The great thing for me is that whilst I bought cover on line, it is backed up by a real firm that is well known and you can phone and talk to real people. I've studied the small print on the life policy and it appears to be exactly the same as all life policies so cover does not seem less even though the cost is significantly lower. As an example of how much the cover costs, I am 34 and a non smoker and have now got £125,000 of cover (including critical illness cover) for under £9 a month for a 25 year period!!! And as stated earlier, the premium is guaranteed not to increase, so I think it is a bargain.

Just to clarify a point made in the comments section, it is term insurance, which does mean that at the end of the 25 years, if you are still alive, your cover ends and you get nothing - it only pays out if you die or are diagnosed with a "critical illness"..
