climax to the story. I won't give away the ending.
As with most Hitchcock films, the story-line is almost just an excuse to discuss themes eg relationships. There is one line where Grant (the character names are practically irrelevant) says "I've always been afraid of women". He is very self-controlled and dislikes himself for falling for someone, particularly someone who is really out of bounds. He can't bring himself for a while, to admit he loves this "notorious" woman. He is in charge of her but also has some sympathy with her.
In typical Hitchcock style, there's a suggestion that the man's loss of control is somehow the woman's fault. She's rather hypnotic. Bergman is also very vulnerable and she's suffering for what her father did. Indeed, her character is actually more likeable than Grant's. He is so appalled at her ...

Manufacturer's product description
The Krays the Richardsons and men like Buster Edwards or Freddie Foreman may be better known to the public but by the end of the Sixties they were either in prison or living in enforced exile. Joey Pyle was (and continues to be) every bit as notorious feared and respected. His broad range of criminal contacts and associates ensured he was either involved in or very much aware of every major criminal escapade that took place. From the murder of Jack the Hat by the Kray twins to the Great Train Robbery from the fatal shooting at the Pen Club to the American Mafia's attempts to penetrate London's casino scene Pyle has seen it all. He saw firsthand the nature of organised crime change from the protection rackets and casino scams of the Sixties through the highly organised armed robberies of the Seventies to the rise of the drug trade which began in earnest in the Eighties and continues to the present day.
