Nottingham Trent University

Advantages: Great Uni. Fact!
Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!

So, having just finished at Nottingham Trent University it made perfect sense to make this brief review on the place...trust me if I reviewed every aspect of life here that I've experienced it would equate to the length of War & Peace!

Trent is officially the leading "new" university in the country and is predominantly a city-based campus, with two other campuses located at Clifton (about 5 miles south of the city) and Brackenhurst ...
...three years there and had an awesome time.

In my first year I was based at the Simpsons Halls of Residence, which are in the Lenton area of Nottingham. Although not the nicest area of the city, the halls were certainly some of the best. Having had coursemates and friends who were located at other halls such as Hampden and Sandby which are much closer to all Uni buildings, I can confirm they pale in significance to the standard of the ... more

Advantages: Cheapish to live, great nightlife, teaching and facilities are excellent
Disadvantages: Expensive to get to.

...Business with Spanish course. The Nottingham Business School is extremely well organised and the quality of teaching is excellent. There is a huge range of information available in the Language Centre. The university as a whole has fantastic facilities, despite being in the middle of the city. There are now, new extensive sports facilities and the library is well stocked and comprehensive. There is also access to the Internet everywhere you go which ...
...In addition to all this, the accommodation is great. I spent my 1st year in halls and there was a huge difference between NTU’s and the other Universities in the country. All in all, Nottingham is the place to be, and Nottingham Trent is the place to go! ...

Top-up degree course in Recreation Management

Advantages: Everything stated in the above text
Disadvantages: They are doing away with Recreation and Hospitality Management courses in one or two years time

I have been at Nottingham Trent University for 2 years, this being my third and I have throughly enjoyed the atmosphere, nightlife, activities, clubs, and most important of all the high teaching standards and the level of help that you get from any member of staff within the building. I first started Nottingham Trent through a franhise with New College Nottingham doing a Diploma in Recreation Management, and now I am doing a top-up degree course ...
...the main City Campus of Nottingham Trent, I was very please in the level and advancedness of the way lectures are put forward, the new types of technology, the large investment in new computers, and the friendliness of staff. This University has developed well since it change from a polytechnic, and has some of the best professors about. Even some of the lectures are very good, with about 85% of staff (teaching) that write books that actually do ...

BA Textile Design at NTU

Advantages: see op
Disadvantages: see op

...completed my first year at Nottingham Trent University doing a BA in Textile Design. I’ve really enjoyed the course and it’s been a great learning experience. With less than a month left till I go back, I need to get back into a hardworking frame of mind. As with any design-based course you are expected to have a certain degree of self- motivation. I must stress that it is a full-time course and needs your dedication if you want to do ...
...had three, so I know!). Nottingham was my first choice so I was all the more nervous. Nottingham Trent University is no exception, be prepared if you have an interview. Once I had my interview (after the dreaded wait) I was overjoyed to find out that I was given an ‘unconditional’ offer. This means that I was guaranteed a place no matter what grades I’d get in foundation. Interview preparation includes swotting up on what is going ...

Part Time Students

Advantages: Part time day doesn't start until 12pm
Disadvantages: Finishes at 9pm, then having to travel makes a late evening

Having completed the first year of a part time course at NTU, I have to say I'm disappointed with the administration, part timers are very much forgotten about, sometimes seminar sessions are scheduled for days when we are not at the university and there is very little communication between departments to organise this. Some of the course content is a little irrelevant to working life, but I guess the modules have to cover such a wide syllabus. ...
...difficult to find an unoccupied computer, printing is a bit faschist as you can only print a certain number of pages per year (even though we're paying 900 pounds for the course), but I guess this is to block student w*nkers from abusing the system. The food areas are plentiful and fairly priced, unfortunately the quality of the food is much to be desired. When it comes to recommended books, take the booklist with a huge pinch of salt, most of ...

The student high life

Advantages: location, cost of living, nightlife, lectures
Disadvantages: not many societies

...is that it is fantastic. Nottingham Trent was originally a Polytechnic and was given university status in 1992. It has nine main faculties, some of which are art and design, law, construction and my faculty which is economics and social sciences. Therefore, there is a broad range of subjects on offer, and the syllabus is constantly expanding. I personally study Sociology, a degree which is gaining more status in terms of academia. As a first year, ...
...high standard. Transport in Nottingham is good however, and there are many bus routes with regular timetables. It costs around 90 p for a journey into town. There is also the new tram system which operates from the city centre and goes right out to Hucknall or Phoenix Park. A typical tram journey costs about £1 and you can get a day pass for £2. I personally love the trams, as they are clean and regular and they run til midnight every night. They ...

BSc Combined Sciences (Biology & XXXX)

Advantages: Modularity
Disadvantages: Red tape

Strangely, the Combined Sciences degree at Nottingham Trent University is administered by the department of Maths, Stats and O.R. This causes more than a few beauracratic headaches. Overall though, the teaching of life sciences within NTU is very tight. Based within a seemingly ever-expanding science building on the Clifton campus, this course is a modular one, sharing many common parts with widely differing courses. This approach leads to one in which the lecturers become very adept at teaching the same material. Another by-product is that their is the possibility of some interesting cross-discipline final year dissertations, which may not be possible in a less modular course. Another bonus point is that, as the degree is modular you can take modules from completely different subjects (languages for instance) without affecting ...

Business Information Systems

Advantages: A course that should lead to a good career
Disadvantages: Lack of support from the Business School

urge anybody currently trying to decide which course to study at University to think very carefully about their choice. Do you really want to spend the next three or four years studying something that bores the pants off you? Having said that, I think that I may have stuck at the course, or transferred to another one more suited to me had there been more support from the business school. As it was support was practically non-existent, and this was something which many of my fellow students also complained about. It appears that the Nottingham Trent business school was notorious throughout the university at the time for not offering support to its students. In contrast the pastoral care at Nottingham Trent University is second to none. I could only recommend this course to very self-reliant people, due to the lack of support ...

If you want a job in construction then look here

Advantages: Probably the best online resource for professional construction related employment. I found my last job using this website.
Disadvantages: In reality only appeals to professional construction related jobs and training. Not a website to use when your Boss is looking.

, University of Bath, University of Birmingham, Nottingham Trent University, Kinston University, University of Liverpool and the University of East London. So as you can see there are quite a few dotted around the country to offer an almost regional coverage for training. The Directory This area of the site offers direct links to all the major professional bodies and government departments associated with construction matters. I find this really handy as I am usually quite bad at remembering website addresses or for that matter where I have stored them in my bookmarks. A great wealth of information can be found from these links. Newsletters Subscribers to this website can elect to receive a quarterly newsletter/bulletin, which provides details of up and coming careers fairs and major recruitment events. The newsletter itself is ...
