Yesterday whilst shopping at Tescos, I was working out my money very carefully, have to keep the food bill under £20 a week. So I shop wise and I had just got £20 worth of vouchers on my Tesco Club Card so I would treat my self to some extra luxuries this week.
So roaming around the loo roll aisle, hubby says can we not have some decent stuff rather than the cheap stuff we always have. Aye why not I thought and put back my cheapo loo roll and as I walked around the corner there were stacks of different loo rolls all thrown in a pile discarded by Tesco Shoppers? Why, because they had a specail offer on this week, Buy One Get One Free. £3.51 on a pack of 9 Toilet Roll. Quick summing up meant we could have the pleasure of 18 loo rolls for the price of 9, so we toddled off to pay for it dreaming of luxury on our bots!
Now I am in recycling mode and whilst i was paying I picked up my envelopes for Recycling old print cartridges and mobiles,
Well the time came and we ran out of loo roll so off I popped to the storage cuboard where I brought out this pack of 9 in a large blue plastic carrier with a picture of a daisy on the front. It claims to be Soft, Quilted and Recycled. Great it fits in with my recycling mode at the moment.

So I bring out my lovely chrome loo roll holder and think I will stack about 4 or 5 of them up.
Whilst in the loo my bladder decides it is time for a tiddle so I opened the pack quite quick.... After tiddling had stopped, I picked up a roll and nearly fainted? It took me around a minute to get the roll opened as it was all stuck together and we lost quite a lot of it by then. Eventually when I got it ready I could not belive how cr** no cannot use that word, sh** no cannot use that word either, let me think, rough the toilet paper felt. If this as they claim on their website to be their softest toilet tissue ever, what was their last, Sandpaper?
It has a horrible rough feel to it and although it was 2 ply, it is paper thin or less, would have been better wiping with tissue paper. It has like a pin dot effect on it with little hearts and flowers on it. How impressive, not!
So with 18 rolls, I thought oh well I will have to use it and did and ewwwww it went all wet and soggy, wheres the absorbency? It ended up like soggy paper mache, ewwwww, I threw it down the loo quite quick and thought what a complete waste of money.
So hubby then goes to use the loo and we thought this would be ideal as they are supposed to be soft and gentle on the skin and with him having psorasis all around his body, this would be ideal as they do not use certain chemicals in this. Well he was gone for a few mins so presumed his was from the other end, lol.
He appeared and said have you not got the new toilet roll out. Well yes you have just used it, what do you think. Well I am trying to keep toilet talk out of this one but he said I am suppose to wipe by Ar** whoops not again, bottom with that. It is rough and not soft and not gentle and is awful and it broke up and used about twice the amount he normally does, which this time he will not find me moaning about. As far as I am concerned he can use a roll a time to get rid of it.
So we do use toilet roll in our house for other things like little spills of water or coffee if we have ran out of kitchen roll. So this happened and I went upstairs and went to wipe the coffee up and it just soaked it up and was all soggy and stuck to my fingers. I was then like a kid trying to pick it off and as I did it just broke up.
Well I have had a naughty thought as I looked back at their packet and it says you can return the cardboard tube plus the wrapper and a sample of the paper back to their customer services if you are not satisfied. Now if I was really really cheeky, you can read into this as it does not say if it is used or not!
Would I recommend this or buy it again, Would I hell as like, I would rather use Izal and that is saying something. I have used recycled kitchen roll in the past and it has been soft and absorbent and nice to feel so what the heck have they done with this.
Oh no 18 rolls to go, now lets see how I can get rid, do any of you want to try it, well can get rid of two or three by packing Garys Pottery up ready for the exhibition. Cut some strips for packing for presents. Wonder if his mum wants some loo roll.
I would hate to think what would happen and how it would dissolve if you had Diahorrea. Ewwwww.
No thanks Nouvelle, next time I will stick to my cheapo toilet paper that is soft and works.
Advantages: NONE Disadvantages: THIN, NOT STRONG, NOT VERY ABSORBANT
...The offending toilet roll – Nouvelle – luxury quilted. Luxury quilted my ….. little finger! Their claim ‘Nouvelle with its attractive, new quilted pattern is as soft as it’s ever been. And each and every sheet is strong, absorbent and gentle on your skin’
Ok so they live up to the soft on your skin claim, it was pleasant enough to blow my nose on, whilst I had a cold and soft on the skin. BUT and yes ... ...blow excessively hard, and gave Nouvelle the benefit of the doubt. When my little boy blew his nose – remember he is only 2 – the same result. This I would not call strong or absorbent. Now I am not going to go into graphic detail about toilet rolls other uses, but in all honesty it did get the job done – eventually, only after half the roll had been used though. I could have done a better job with Izal paper!!
My other gripe with ...

Advantages: Does the job, average price, "green" product Disadvantages: Not that soft, much the same as any other loo roll
...I opted for Nouvelle soft recycled toilet roll because it looked soft and was on special offer - £1.29 for a four roll pack compared to the normal price of £1.89. Usually Alldays is considerably more expensive than most supermarkets so I imagine you could buy this for a good 40-50p cheaper elsewhere. Packaging in dark blue polythene adorned with a large white flower - well just how attractive can you make such a product look?? Each roll has an average ... ...I think. The Nouvelle slogan is "soft on you, soft on nature" - their toilet roll is made from 100% recycled paper and the packaging is recyclable too so they are doing their bit for the environment if not for your bum. What's it like? Well it's bog roll innit? You need a good few sheets for your average, errrr, "load" and it does not strike me or my bits as particularly soft in comparison to others..it has that strange, slightly rough and bitty ...

Advantages: Might be cheap Disadvantages: Hurts, hurts...and isn't soft
...have here is the Soft Nouvelle Recycled toilet paper, that must have been considerably cheaper than the rest of the options available to my mother as she bought a pack with 12 rolls in. As my mother is quite miserly at times, and with toilet paper just ending up covered in human made chocolate mouse, it may be fair to assume she's bought some crap paper here (excuse the pun).
The first thing we shall look at is the paper as a whole, pre-usage, each ... ...feeling, just bog standard (yes yes I know, the last one was better) tissue paper. It looks and feels quite cheap and was alarmingly each to rip in my hands as an experiment, I'm now however concerned...it may be just that easy to rip during use...an accident no one wants to happen to them. I'd never thought much about it until now, but if the paper goes wrong you could have a host of problems:

Advantages: Relatively Cheap, soft, and it is recycled Disadvantages: Too thin, can irritate the skin
Whenever I think about this product it always concerns me by what they mean by, 'Recycled Toilet Tissue'. Does it mean that someone else has already wiped there behind on it? I dread to think that I could be wiping my backside on a piece of paper that has already been used by someone else for the same purpose. It certainly conjurs that up for me any way.
Seriously though this paper is not all it is cracked up to be. Mrs Reeftank and I decided to ... ...and strong. Mrs Reef is what I would describe as 'rectally Challenged'. By that I mean she has problems, she suffers with constipation and as a result piles. So she needs a toilet paper that is kind to her behind. Must admit I'd sooner have something soft and silky on my behind too.
First problem we had was getting the first sheet of paper off the roll. The end was stuck down so tightly that I thought it was never going to come off. I ended up tearing ...

Advantages: Recycled Disadvantages: Not soft, Old fashioned design, Overall poor quality
...Free on 4 packs of Nouvelle toilet roll seemed like a worthwhile buy. Nouvelle is not a brand I had previously tried before, but the through the packaging the toilet rolls looked good quality, and squishing the pack they felt fairly soft so I bought them... Nouvelle is fairly easy to spot on the shelves - the packaging is quite distinct with the Nouvelle logo in white across the top of a mainly blue packet, with a sun-like daisy rising from between ... ...to the touch. Nouvelle advertise their website on the packaging of the toilet roll - www.softonyou.co.uk - again this portrays an image that the product is going to be really quite soft - quite misleading... In their favour howver, Nouvelle do offer a 'Softness Guarantee' in that if it's not soft enough for you you can return the product for a refund on your purchase and the postage price. Quilted??? The paper itself is embossed with what can only ...
