At first they catch your eye with their style. It is pretty futuristic with all of it's elements being very smooth. Another good thing is the configuration of controls, which is very comfortable. Visually, this turntable looks prety well, especially with the mixer I mentioned above. ... ..."senior brother" TT1625 is used here. It is a direct drive, which is pretty a rare thing among the turntables of the same price level. Torque is quite okay (1.0 kgf/cm) and no problems occur when it runs by itself. But somehow when you manually tweak the speed, it is heavily disturbed and does not behave the way it should. Also, only 33 and 45 rpm are supported.
Pitch control is a weak point here. Although it's wide (+/-10%), it ... more
These were my first turntables I bought for myself, but I made this decision after having studied the competition quite a lot. I've played on lots of other decks of approximately same level and none could compare with Numark TT1650. The mixer I used was Numark 1050, which is of the same price level and a perfect match for the these decks.

Technically, the same motor as in "senior brother" TT1625 is used here. Although it's wide (+/-10%), it is not precise at all. In ranges between about -3% and +3% you will hardly notice any difference at all. Even more, the controls themselves are quite undurable and can be broken at any moment.
OK, these were the weak points of the deck, but they are noticable for a pro DJ only, and this turntable is not meant to be used by the pro's. It's the begginer's deck and there are several reasons for it to be IMHO the best begginer's deck available. This one is very easy to use. You can be absolutely relaxed playing this turntable being sure you will not break anything (except the pitcher), which makes it a perfect one for passive listening of records. But still it has all the functions needed for a proper mixing and scratching. Even more, it is very durable unless you don't forget taking at least some care. This is because mechanically it is very simple, and even it is broken, it will be repaired easely. And, of course, the biggest advantage is it's price level. Among the competition of the same price it is so much better than anything else, that you shouldn't really consider buying some other turntable. The main reason is that almost all of them do not even have a direct drive, and even the novice will have an endless stress and broken dubplates using them. And this one has never given me a problem.
Overall, I'm absolutely convinced, and my opinion is supported by lots of others, that this one is without any doubt The Best Choice For The Beginner.
Advantages: Direct drive, cheap, fun, good for all levels of ability. Disadvantages: New slipmats a must, New needles a must, deteriorate after extensive use.
...I owned a pair of numark 1520s before my 1650s and was very satisfied with them.
Many people find the 1650s difficult to keep pitch in long mixes, although i have never had a problem until now.
My mixes generally last anywhere between 1 and 3 mins. The only reason I am having problems now is because the decks are getting old as i bought them second hand.
One of the turntables' motor has gone, it no longer keeps pitch and it also starts up really ...

Advantages: Reasonable price, dual position Disadvantages: Low torque, unreliable pitch control
I tried these decks out on hire and was instantly impressed by the layout and style. Startup times were good and the decks seemed very responsive to begin with.
After a little while playing them though the cracks started to appear...
Sound quality seemed a bit poor to me, although this was probably more dependent upon the cartridge than the decks themselves.
Torque is good when started and stopping, but the momentum of the record is very easily ... ...This became very frustrating!
The pitch controls seemed very cheap, were not very precise and felt like they could break off at any moment. Also, pitch adjustment around 0% is terrible - there is a noticeable difference which is difficult to compensate for when mixing.
I used to own a pair of Technics 1210s, so to be fair I am comparing these decks to the industry standard, which happen to cost three times as much.
These are not in the same league ...
