As a retired dog owning batchelor cleaning is not my priority in life but removing long white German Shepherd hairs from every square inch of my flat is an ongoing nightmare that just has to be addressed.
I borrowed a few vacuum cleanersto see if they would cope including a Dyson which, as an engineer, I thought was a brilliant but over complex concept. It also seemed to have the longevity of a take away container.
Eventually having tried a Numatic Henry wet 'n dry which had great "suck" but no powered head I took the plunge and ordered a "Henry Hound". On arrival, and with some trepidation, I unpacked it, connected the hoses etc, put on the 24v power head [which was quite heavy] and pressed the button.
My "test" lasted half an hour by which time every corner of the flat was devoid of dog hairs, dust, and even chewed wood and little bits of plastic - eureka, both sanity and cleanliness in one go with absolutely no doggy smells coming from the machine!
So, for those canine lovers who are fed up with finding dog hair under their pillow, in the fridge, and hidden beneath every piece of furniture there is a God, called Henry!
Yes,the Numatic Hound is quite expensive compared to some competitirs claiming to have twice its power. It's even more than the ordinary "Turbo" model due to the extrordinary carbon filter - but worth every penny.
The "Hound" does precisely what it says on the box, and more, and is far quieter than most of its competitors. It follows you around like a love lost puppy and its trademark "Mr Henry smiley face" makes cleaning, even for a man, a far less tedious chore.
There are acouple of shortcomings. The hose does not stretch enough to do a long flight of stairs, the tubes are plastic [compared to the stainless tubes of the "Turbo"] and there is no provison to store accessories aboard. Having said this the shortcomings are dwarfed by the joy of actually being able to see clean carpets.
One final feature not mentioned by others is that the Henry Hound with its classic Numatic shape is almost impossible for a dog to sink its teeth into compared to the wondrous Dyson which is just a big dog chew waiting to be attacked!
In short the Henry Hound is an efficient piece of sound engineering designed to last for years, not a piece of contemporary abstract domestic art. I've noticed umpteen fairly recent competitor's machines dumped at the Recycling Centre - but not a Henry in sight!
The Henry Hound is the Toyota Hi Luxe of the anti-dog vacuum world -even a tinnie crushing Aussie would be hard pressed to break one!

i must say I like my Dyson! My daughters labrador is terrified of it and takes off upstairs as soon as I get it out! Good review x
