I am a Nursery Practitioner and will be starting my foundation degree in Early Years this Autumn and Nursery World is used a lot in researching and doing essays and is highly recommended as a reference resource in doing any Childcare related Training, especially degrees where referencing and researching is highly used.
This Magazine can only be purchased in some newsagents and can be hard to find, in our local town only WHSmiths stock this. I however purchase mine as a subscription online and did this through the website: http://www.nurseryworld.magazine.co.uk/
I pay mine by subscription Quarterly paying by direct debit at £21. You can also pay annually for £84 direct debit or £99 using a credit card. This subscription gets you fortnightly magazines, online members access to hundreds of useful resources (More details about website below), Supplement downloads and much more.
Each Magazine come packed with updated articles related to different types of Childcare for the 0-5 years and is also useful for child-minders. The magazine is released fortnightly with 24 issues a year. The magazine covers all areas of Child Development and links to the EYFS (Early Years foundations stage which childcares must use in planning and assessments). The Magazine provides sessional activity's throughout the year giving you more ideas to extend children's play. There are several adverts throughout the magazine promoting toys, educational resources and Training.
The Magazine is a great resource in learning about any course/training changes or updates which we may need as childcare providers, it helps us understand what is needed by us to continue provided excellent standards of care to children in different childcare settings.
The Magazine is always bright and cheerful mostly with colours related to the current time of year, it really keeps me interested and is very resourceful. The magazine has an equal amount of articles, stories, activities, adverts. I hate magazines that just advertises way too much and this magazine doesn't do this.
I keep all my magazine as they are great for helping you with planning and activity ideas and i refer back to mine often, mostly due to my training and using these while referencing pieces of work.
Website:
http://www.nurseryworld.co.uk/
The Magazine and Website have a big link and work alongside each other providing us childcare providers with instant updates by email, it provides extra support to use and extra articles to refer to. The Magazine refers to the website on a regular basis i.e. most details on this can be found at .........
The Website also provides links and downloads to relevant and important childcare files which we must keep up to date with. The links are easy to find and simple to download. A search box helps you find these quickly. You can also as a subscriber download extra magazine supplements free including Nursery Management and toys and equipment to name a few.
The Forum is a great place to meet other childcare providers and to share in discussions and ask questions, the forum isn't that busy but your question is normally answered within a day.
The Website provides an excellent Training and employment page where you can find out more about training and look for jobs around the uk. The process of applying for jobs on the site is very easy to do, you click on the job that you wish to apply for and attach your cv and send.
Extra Information:
Nursery World has is own show once a year where childcare providers can visit different stalls where we can meet different suppliers and organisations to help strengthen our work. The next show is in Feb 2013.
